3. Adults can pay bills over the phone without lining
up in big queues which saves them time.
4. Helps people keep up with news and current
events.
5. Helps people who are lost or in danger call for
help – saves lives!

traffic problems. Alfred

help control traffic.
Later a yellow light was
added and today traffic
lights are controlled by
computers.
7. Plastics 1909 Leo Baekeland made a
plastic called ’Bakelite’
that could stand high

ways to use plastics.
Almost any item in our
home could be made out
of some sort of plastic.
8. Video Cassette (VCR) 1970 The first VCR was made
by Phillips. It was a

sound on a magnetic
tape. Remote controls
were later used to make
it even easier to
operate.
9. Ball Point Pen Ladislo and The pen was invented
because using ink quills

made a mess. Brothers

used quick drying ink to
make a ball point pen
which doesn’t leave
blobs.
10. Sticky Tape 1925 Richard Drew was
looking for a way to stop

coated with a sticky
paste on one side and it
worked! Masking tape is

of clear tapes.
11. Radio 1901 Guglielmo Marconi
invented the radio when

and receive radio
messages across the
Atlantic Ocean in 1901 .
Now messages can be
sent from country to
country. The radio
allows us to hear news,
music and stories from
