Decennial Census

The U.S. Constitution provides for a census of the population every 10 years,

primarily to establish a basis for apportionment of members of the House of Representatives among the states.

In 1902, the Census Bureau was established, responsible for enumerating the population and compiling statistics

Current Population Survey Estimates

Estimates of the United States population are derived by updating the resident population enumerated in Census

information on the components of population change: births, deaths, and net international migration.

Estimates are made as of July 1 of the year.
