2005 Patricia Guthrie Memorial Award
The prize is provided through the generosity of the Guthrie family, is awarded in commemoration
of Patricia Guthrie who was RMIT’s first female Head of the TAFE School of Communication and
Social Science and a valued and much respected member of staff of RMIT. The award is based
on academic excellence, social awareness and involvement in community affairs.
Amie was conferred with the degree: Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Science) with
honours 1st class. Amie was an exceptional student who in her third year, was one of a selected
group of students to be part of a multidiscipline project in Vietnam. Amie was also actively
involved in:
The Staff Student Consultative Committee
ACESS (Applied Chemistry and Environmental Science Students Society)
Mentoring the first year Environmental Science students;
Was the peer tutor for the rural “science in schools” program in Hamilton for a week;
Assisted with RMIT’s Open Day.
Amie’s extra curricular activities included her position as Secretary and Executive Member of the
Melton Environment Group which involved attending meetings to initiate working bees and tree
planting initiatives and being involved in clean up Australia Day, National Tree Day, Landcare and
Waterwatch.
