					                 SCHOOL TEAM SELECTION – NATIONAL
Both the school teams chosen to represent WA at the National competition will be chosen
from runners who compete in the appropriate age groups and the State trials on Friday
27/5/2011.

Only those students who are in Years 9, 10 and 11 and whose ages are 14yrs, 15yrs, or 16yrs
in 2011 are eligible to compete in this event. Other runners cannot be considered.

BOYS

 The boy’s school team will be selected from the Boys 16yrs 6km age group race, as
this is the distance runners must compete in for the Australian team selection.
 Individual runner’s will be assigned a numerical ranking that corresponds to their
       finishing order in the age group race eg: 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 3 points and
       so on.
 The school awarded the lowest number of points for their first 6 athletes across the
line will be given the first option of representing WA at the National event. If this
school declines the offer it will be extended to the 2nd place school.
 Schools may be required to run younger runners up in the 16yr old event if they wish
to qualify for the school team selection. Staff must remember that runners can only be
aged 14, 15 or 16 years to be eligible.

GIRLS

 The girl’s school team may be selected from the Girls 14yrs, 15yrs and 16yrs events
due to them all competing in a 4km event, the same distance required for the
       Australian team selection.
 Individual runners will be assigned a numerical ranking that corresponds to their
finishing time, once all 3 age group races have been combined and ranked together.
    Athlete’s times will then allocated a numerical value eg: 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points
etc, similar to the boy’s rankings.
 The school awarded the lowest number of points for their first 6 athletes will be
invited to represent WA at the National event. If this school declines the offer it will
be extended to the 2nd place school.
