Overall Purpose of the Job
Working as part of the Leeds team that provides a range of services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing
adults within Leeds to assist in improving their quality of life.
To deliver a quality technical equipment service within the resources available to it, ensuring that
the service users receive a service to the highest professional standard.
Principal Accountabilities
1. To carry out needs-led assessments and risk assessments and provide practical and
impartial advice and guidance on technical equipment in order to identify the most suitable
environmental equipment to meet their individual needs. To submit all completed
assessments to the Operations Manager/line manager. These assessments will be carried
out either at the office base or via domiciliary visits.
2. To be professional and approachable at all times when meeting with service users and other
professionals.
3. To have a good working knowledge of risk assessment and risk management and
safeguarding issues and to seek support accordingly.
4. To be pro-active in signposting service users to the DALES SPA worker for additional advice
and guidance as required following their assessment of need. To signpost to other internal
services or external agencies as identified.
5. To assist in the monitoring and reporting on stock control, and ordering equipment as
required within agreed budgets and providing relevant documentation to the Senior
Assessor.
6. To be responsible for arranging and issuing service users appointments, assisting with the
plan of work for the electrician/handyman so that he can carry out required installations and
repairs or fittings. To ensure that the electrician is provided with the relevant equipment to
complete his work. You may be expected to meet with the electrician to agree the work load
and share any issues/concerns on a weekly basis. This is likely to occur outside normal office
hours.
7. To be responsible for gaining permission from the service user to review the service to
ensure equipment is being used effectively after issue.
8. To assist in undertaking re-assessments as and when required, producing the relevant
paperwork and issuing equipment based on new needs identified.
9. To assist in reviews and monitoring across the service.
10. To follow up referrals for broken equipment, either repairing or replacing according to BID
services policy and criteria.
11. To assist in maintaining an up to date register of all clients utilising the service.
12. Provide technical advice to other staff members/volunteers and take an active part in the
planning and preparation of presentations, demonstrations, talks, and training within BID
services as required.
13. Provide technical advice to a range of professionals or potential service users by taking an
active part in the planning and preparation of presentations, demonstrations, talks, training
and consultations to service users and professionals as required.
14. To keep up to date with the latest developments in this field of work
15. To have a good working knowledge of relevant legislation underpinning this service and keep
abreast of developments and trends.
16. To attend and actively participate in all relevant meetings including team meetings,
supervisions, conferences, training courses and Joint performance reviews
17. To assist in maintaining the quality assurance systems and frameworks to ensure that the
expected standards and criteria are adhered to in line with the Operations Manager and
funders requirements.
18. To produce appropriate and confidential records (written or electronic) adhering to BID
services policies relating to confidentiality and data protection.
19. To assist in recording and collating statistical data on a monthly basis, and providing this
information in the required format to the Operations Manager within the required timescales.
20. To input data onto the Deaf Register from the point of referral or as required and amend as
and when necessary.
21. To improve skills and knowledge by participating in personal development as appropriate and
attend appropriate training courses and other events as deemed appropriate by the
Operations Manager.
