                  Saving the Planet – Saving Money

The Green ICT Forum 2011: Saving the Planet – Saving Money organized by
Green ICT Consortium (The Consortium), was held at the Cyberport on 6 May 2011
with great success! With the theme on energy and business efficiency, the Forum
brought together ideas on different aspects of Green ICT practices by overseas
expert and representatives of enterprises.

Dr. Elizabeth Quat, JP, initiator and Founding Chairman of Steering Committee of
Green ICT Consortium, officiated the opening ceremony and gave a brief introduction
of the Consortium and its project and activities that we had worked on. She wished
the Forum could enhance further sharing of green ICT practices for both business
effectiveness and environmental purposes. It is our honour that Miss Joey Lam,
Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Policy and Customer Service), Office
of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), delivered a keynote speech
on ICT adoption for Green. She briefed on the Government’s green ICT initiatives

including Green Procurement, Paper-Less Meeting Initiative, Green Data Centre
Strategy, Green ICT in the Community, etc.

The Forum was started by the overseas speaker, Ms Sarah O’Brien, Outreach and
Communications Director of the Green Electronics Council (EPEAT Outreach Director)
on Greening ICT: Challenges and Opportunities. Other honourable speakers
from Hewlett-Packard HK SAR Limited (HP) and HSBC shared their company green
ICT Practice subsequently. An interactive discussion with the audience on best green
ICT practice and the representatives of different enterprises was initiated by a panel
with open discussion. A closing remarks was given by Mr. Herman Lam, Chief
Executive Officer, Cyberport Hong Kong, which was the event sponsor. Finally, Mr.
Gabriel Leung, Founding Chairman of Executive Committee of Green ICT
Consortium gave an appreciation remarks and expressed sincere thanks to all
speakers, sponsors, supporting organizations, organizing committee(OC) especially
the OC Chairman Mr. Peter Miao, the Panel Facilitator Professor KF Wong, the
Forum Project Manager Miss Helen Tam, and all individuals for their kind support
and dedication to the Forum.

Green ICT Forum is the first public Forum of the Consortium and provided an
effective platform for the sharing and inspiration of Green ICT practices on reducing
ICT costs and enhancing energy and operating efficiency. It successfully increased
awareness of Green ICT among ICT practitioners. The Consortium will continuously
promote the awareness of green ICT and contribute to the economy and reduction of
greenhouse gas emission!
