Car Rentals, Foreign – Insurance (All locations other than USA & Puerto Rico)
For car rental procedures, please read the section titled, “Car Rentals” above.
For car rentals in Mexico and countries that are sanctioned by the US Treasury Department
Office of Foreign Assets, Murray’s Travel has been instructed that they MUST ALWAYS
purchase additional insurance at the OU’s expense for OU Employees (W-2) or Independent
Contractors (1099). To determine if a country is on the current “watch list,” Murray’s
Travel will call AIG Assist 1-800-401-2678 (OU Policy # WR10001059).
For car rentals in Canada, Murray’s Travel is instructed that they MAY ONLY purchase
additional insurance from a rental company for OU Employees (W-2) at the employee’s own
personal expense as the OU currently maintains an auto insurance policy with Travelers
Insurance that affords domestic coverage (subject to limitations) for OU Employees driving
in Canada. The only exception to this policy is for car rentals with Enterprise or National
due to the OU’s negotiated rate for full insurance coverage. For Independent Contractors
(1099) driving in Canada, Murray’s MUST ALWAYS purchase additional insurance from a
rental company at the OU’s expense as Independent Contractors (1099) are not covered by
OU insurance.
For all other foreign car rentals, Murray’s Travel is instructed that they MAY ONLY
purchase additional insurance from a rental company for OU Employees (W-2) or
Independent Contractors (1099) at the personal expense of the OU Employee or Independent
Contractor (W-2 or 1099), as the OU currently maintains an auto insurance policy with AIG
that affords foreign coverage (subject to limitations) for employees (W-2) and Independent
Contractors (1099). The only exception to this policy is for car rentals with Enterprise or
National due to the OU’s negotiated rate for full insurance coverage. Note: It has been
suggested by some that the combined cost of renting a vehicle in Europe with Damage
Waiver insurance is cheaper than renting a vehicle without. If Murray’s Travel finds this to
be the case, Damage Waiver insurance will be added at no additional expense to the driver.
