church actually

Ephesians 4:1-16
Rev. Philip Chan

There are so many types of churches. So what is the Church, actually? What does God really want the Church to be?

God wants… A. A CHURCH THAT FLOWS! 1. Key Words: unity, one, joined and held together

2. Key Verses  “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit…” (v 3)  “There is one body…” (v 4)  “…joined and held together by every supporting ligament” (v 16)

3. Key Ideas  It is God’s will for the church to be united (flow together)  It takes effort to stay united (v 2, 3)  It takes love to stay united (v 16)

B. A CHURCH THAT GROWS! Key Words: build up, grow, mature

2. Key Verses  “…so that the body of Christ may be built up”(v 12)  “…become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (v 13, 15)  “the whole body…grows and builds itself up in love” (v 16)

3. Key Ideas  God wants us to grow spiritually  God wants us to grow together (“we all”, v13)  God wants us to grow to maturity (“fullness of Christ”, v13)

C. A CHURCH THAT GOES! Key Words: service, work

2. Key Verses  “…to prepare God’s people for works of service” (v 12)  “…as each part does its work” (v 16)

3. Key Ideas  God has given “trainers” to the Church  Every Christian is called to serve  We are called to serve according to our giftings

A church in the will of God flows in

unity, grows to maturity, and goes into ministry !
