‘Skillset’ Pilot - Strategic Aims

2007 - ‘Skillset’ commissioned Dv8 to develop a pilot

diploma delivery model with the following aims;

i) Test principles of C&M diploma



ii) Develop employer engagement and a high level of WRL

opportunities



iii) Develop innovative delivery models using ICT



iv) Test & inform partnership arrangements in Waltham Forest, Islington

& Haringey

One of the key challenges for the pilot was to develop an online

learner portfolio to showcase work, act as an assessment tool and

promote personalised learning

 Common protocols & partnership arrangements – in draft

form (based on Sheffield model)

 Exam Officers meetings – accreditation and assessment

via schools exam offices

 OCR established as diploma awarding body

 Arts award tested during pilot

 Waltham Forest VLE to host student registers, reports &

progress notes and common quality arrangements.

Curriculum Development

Unit writing & functional skills

 Based on Arts Inform Model linked to 12 national arts

organisations – available via LONSAS –

www.lonsas.org,uk

 Writing teams – WF teachers / tutors & Dv8 tutors – unit

writing in pairs

 CPD events across 08/09 – introduce new teachers /

tutors to units, resources and delivery approach

 Functional Skills model – 6 teachers drawn from WF

schools

½ day every 2 weeks within common timetable.

On-week – embedded delivery

Off-week – session planning & embedding with Dv8 staff
