11 TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MR. THOMAS
12 RIVERS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF GILBERT HIGH
13 SCHOOL, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEING NAMED
14 THE 2011 SOUTH CAROLINA SECONDARY ASSISTANT
15 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR
16 HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH
17 CAROLINA.

19 Whereas, the General Assembly has learned that Mr. Thomas
20 Rivers, assistant principal of Gilbert High School, has been named
21 the 2011 South Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year
22 by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
23
24 Whereas, Mr. Rivers’ established model of excellence has
25 encouraged the faculty and staff at Gilbert High School to grow
26 professionally, and his ability to communicate effectively has
27 enabled him to excel in championing the needs of all his students;
28 and
29
30 Whereas, a veteran of fourteen years as an educator, Mr. Rivers
31 has served as an assistant principal for five years and is actively
32 involved in his community; and
33
34 Whereas, he received his bachelor’s degree in business
35 administration and a master’s degree in education from James
36 Madison University, a master’s degree in continuing education
37 from the University of West Alabama, and an education specialist
38 degree from the University of South Carolina. Currently, he is
39 pursuing his doctorate at the same institution; and
40
41 Whereas, unsurprised that this fine award rests on the deserving
42 shoulders of Thomas Rivers, the students of Gilbert High School

1 and their parents, as well as Mr. Rivers’ colleagues, friends, and
2 family members, appreciate the outstanding contributions he has
3 made in the field of education, which have benefited countless
4 students in South Carolina; and
5
6 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly
7 are pleased to pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude
8 to Thomas Rivers, one of this great State’s finest educators, and to
9 congratulate him on the pride and distinction he has brought to his
10 school and community on being named the 2011 South Carolina
11 Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year. Now, therefore,
12
13 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
14 concurring:
15
16 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this
17 resolution, recognize and congratulate Mr. Thomas Rivers,
18 assistant principal of Gilbert High School, upon the occasion of his
19 being named the 2011 South Carolina Secondary Assistant
20 Principal of the Year, and commend him for his dedicated service
21 to education in South Carolina.

23 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
24 Mr. Thomas Rivers.
