JOB DESCRIPTION:           Director of Rugby at Bromsgrove School

Line Manager:              Reports directly to Second Deputy Head (Co-Curricular)

                           Liaises with Head of Boy’s P.E., in both Senior and Preparatory School,
                           Bursar, Assistant Head, Enterprise Manager

Hours of Work:             During school terms you will be required to work all school hours while
                           the School is in session and at any other time ( including during school
                           holidays, at weekends and before and after the school’s normal starting
                           and finishing times) as may be necessary in the reasonable opinion of
                           your Line Manager for the proper performance of your duties.

Holidays:                  Subject to the section Hours of Work above, you are entitled to take all
                           School holidays in accordance with the published dates in the school
                           calendar. Public and Bank Holidays occurring during school terms may
                           well be working days.

Salary:                    A competitive salary in line with qualifications and experience.

Sickness Benefit:          Statutory Sick Pay only in the first twelve months of service. After this the
                           following applies:

                           One week of full pay after one year of service
                           Three weeks of pay after two years of service
                           Five weeks of pay after three years of service
                           Eight weeks of pay after four years of service

                           Eight weeks is the maximum entitlement.

Pension Scheme:            A contributory pension scheme of up to 5% is available.

To be responsible for Rugby throughout the Bromsgrove School system. To develop and promote
Rugby through the School’s Marketing Department and appropriate external bodies.


         To be responsible for the overall administration of Rugby within Bromsgrove School in
          accordance with agreed School policies. To establish a Development Plan for the overall
          infrastructure of School Rugby to cover performance, coaching and facilities at all levels.

         To ensure a co-ordinated approach to Rugby Development Foundation, participation,
          performance and excellence through the support of associated development bodies and
          P.E. staff in all sections of the School.

         To review and recommend budgets for the Rugby programme. To create sponsorship,
          grant aid, revenue projects and make National Lottery bids in conjunction with
          appropriate staff. To seek grant aid and financial support for Development plans and
   To support the Rugby programme through coaching the First XV and to establish a support
    programme of sports science, psychology, lifestyle, fitness and diet.

   To be responsible for the organisation of regular Rugby tours at all levels but particulary
    the First XV.

   To organise, manage and market to the Rugby fraternity of clubs, schools and outside
    organisations, events such as rugby festivals, tournaments, tours at Bromsgrove School.

   To strengthen links between Bromsgrove School and other Rugby organisations including
    local CB’s and Worcester Warriors via events and matches.

   To make recommendations for additional, appropriate Rugby to the Second Deputy Head
    (Co-Curricular) to support the development of School Rugby and specialist sessions.

   To work alongside the Marketing Department to promote sports events, taster days,
    recruitment drives.

   To research and implement holiday clubs and activities at Bromsgrove School in
    conjunction with the Bursar and Marketing Department.

   To work in conjunction with P.E. staff at Bromsgrove School to support games teaching
    and to manage/coach teams as necessary.

   To assume responsibility for the administration of all fixtures, appointment of referees, co-
    ordination of all transport arrangements and the organisation of hosting visiting teams in
    the Senior School. To organise appropriate training programmes and manage the pre-
    season programme.

   To allocate managers to each team and support these colleagues in their duties. Also to
    support and encourage all staff coaching rugby through the provision of Inset and the
    promotion of regular clinics.

   To organise appropriate training schedules for all teams and work in conjunction with the
    Head of Boys Games (Senior School) and the Head of department in the Prep School to
    allocate facilities for coaching and practice throughout the year.

   To assume responsibility for the organisation of both Senior and Junior House Rugby
