RH TRUCK IS THE 12 MILLIONTH TO USE EUROTUNNEL
An RH Freight truck has just become the 12 millionth to travel on Eurotunnel's
Freight Shuttle across the Channel.
RH is the UK's largest European freight specialist and is the biggest British customer of
Eurotunnel. RH is expected to use Eurotunnel for over 20,000 crossings in 2007.
Eurotunnel opened in 1994 and RH has been using the service from day one.
Ian Baxter, RH's Managing Director explains why they use Eurotunnel: "Since it first
opened Eurotunnel has provided a fast and reliable service to RH. We very much value
our relationship with them and look forward to working with them in the future"
Eurotunnel provides a 'piggyback' transport service. 16 shuttles carry trucks back and
forth, providing freight operators a departure every 10 minutes. Last year, almost 1.3
million trucks were carried by Eurotunnel and in the first quarter of 2007, there was an
increase of 11% compared to the first quarter of 2006
With the help of services such as Eurotunnel, RH is able to offer customers an
unparalleled 24 and 48 hour guaranteed delivery service to most European destinations
and last year, the company shipped 350,000 consignments to and from Europe on behalf
of its customers.
Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel's Commercial Director commented: "Our traffic is growing, our
revenues are up and our service is second to none. I am delighted to be able to welcome
our 12 millionth truck today and to thank RH Freight for their loyal custom."
The driver of the 12 millionth truck was Ian Ecob, one of RH's longest serving drivers
and a special ceremony was arranged for him, where he was presented with a special
certificate and photograph to mark the occasion.
Ian Ecob added: "RH probably use the Tunnel around 400 times per week. It is definitely
the most reliable and convenient service for drivers like me."
