OSF ST. JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER, TODD SNOEYINK, DPM,

HOST ANNUAL SHOE DRIVE TO BENEFIT HOME SWEET HOME MINISTRIES

OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and OSF Medical Group Podiatrist Todd Snoeyink, DPM, will sponsor

“The OSF Shoe Drive” from September 12 through September 16, 2011. The shoe drive will benefit

Home Sweet Home Ministries in Bloomington, Illinois.

The sponsors are asking the Bloomington-Normal community to donate new or gently used, men‟s,

women‟s and children‟s shoes. There will be several drop-off locations during the week along with a

drive thru drop-off held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the parking lot of OSF St.

Joseph Medical Center.

The daily drop-off locations within OSF St. Joseph Medical Center will be in Eastland Medical Plaza I

and the hospital‟s main entrance off of Washington Street. Locations off-campus include: OSF

Medical Group – College Avenue, 1701 E. College Avenue, Bloomington, and the Center for Health at

Ft. Jesse, 2200 Ft. Jesse Road, Normal.

The 2010 shoe drive collected more than 3,200 pairs of shoes for the homeless shelter. Dr. Snoeyink

began the shoe drive eight years ago to help prevent cold related injuries that could arise in the

homeless population from inadequate shoe gear during the cold weather months. Wearing properly

fitting shoes also helps prevent many of the injuries that result from improperly fitting or inappropriate

shoe gear.

Home Sweet Home Ministries is a full service homeless shelter open 24-hours per day, 365 days per

year, serving those in need with daily meals, shelter and other social services.

For more information on Home Sweet Home Ministries visit www.hshministries.org. For more

information about “The OSF Shoe Drive” and drop off locations, visit www.osfstjoseph.org.

Joy Care news... First, the fund-raiser concert starring the Collingsworth Family is coming up on

Saturday, October 15, at 6:00 PM at the Normal Community High School auditorium. People who

have heard the group rave about it, and especially about Mrs. Collingsworth's talent as a pianist.

Tickets in the lower bowl are $20 and are going fast. Padded bleacher seating is $15, and chidren

(age 5-12) are $5. If you want a ticket, send check a SASE to the Joy Care office at 510 E.

Washington St., Bloomington, or purchase them at the Berean bookstore.

Second, our support group for persons with a loved one behind bars continues to meet on alternate

Saturdays at 10:00 AM in the Wes Becker room at the Center for Health, 2200 Ft. Jesse Road in

Normal.

Third, two new groups have picked up the ball and are running Jobs Partnership classes. The

Heartland Community Church is 2/3 through current classes, conducted at their outreach center on

West Market St. in Bloomington. Michelle Cook is the coordinator. They are already gearing up to

start new classes on October 17th. Our second group at Eastview Christian Church in Normal, they

started Sept. 1st. and are led by Jason Sniff. Recently, Judge Robb and Asst. State's Atty.

Engelbrecht, have sent us a large number of students from the Child Support court.

Finally, President Bill Hertter and I have seen over 30 new clients this year, in addition to

corresponding with an increasing number of inmates who are nearing release as well as interested

family members. We continue to accept invitations from church and community organizations to

speak about Joy Care, and we and the rest of the Board are promoting Joy Care at such events as

the Farmer's Market, 2nd Presbyterian Church's Volunteer Fair, and the first McLean County Summit

of Hope event coming up in November. Bill has also forged a wonderful new partnership with his

former employer, the Pantagraph, who is co-sponsoring our Collingsworth concert. The Lord

continues to bless us financially, and we are using some of those funds to help new clients.

Our biggest need is for more volunteers. We need mentors/job coaches for our JP graduates and

regular clients. We also need people that can give us just a few hours a week to help staff our office,

basically just answering phone calls and sending out information about us.

Finally, Ron Dozier will be resigning as Executive Director of Joy Care Center effective November 1st,

and will be taking a 6-month leave of absence from the Board starting that date to enjoy some

retirement. President Bill Hertter will be stepping up and will be taking on additional responsibilities as

the only other retiree on the Board. Please keep him and the whole Joy Care organization in your

prayers.

"IT'S TIME TO TALK DAY" is October 4, 2011 -- In Central Illinois, the Corporate Alliance to End

Partner Violence and other local organizations are co-sponsoring “It‟s Time to Talk Day" on October

4th to raise awareness of domestic violence and its impact throughout our community. The theme this

year is “It's Time to Talk: (un)Healthy Relationships. (un)Recognized.”

in an unhealthy relationship and it is important to recognize the warning signs. Statistics show that

If you haven't had the chance stop by the Old House Society warehouse at 214 East Douglas

St, Blm, and check out the buildings new, old look. We removed the barn siding Saturday and

revealed the original glazed block. We need your help in raising money for our restoration project. The

warehouse needs a lot of repair and our funds aren't adequate to do the job. The roof is a big priority

as it leaks all over our precious salvage materials. Michael Ryburn has been up on the roof going on

the 3rd day in an effort to raise the money so stop by and say hi, then drop a little something in the

donation jar. He really needs to get down off the roof quickly, so please help out by collecting up a

donation from friends, workers and family. Tell them it's for the Old House Society Restoration Fund.

Normally we are open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm but while I'm trying to

raise this money you can stop by any time and I'll open up so you can take a look around. Were all in

this together and I'm pulling for you.
