Not Again! An iPhone Prototype Gets Lost in a Bar . . .
Just last year the iPhone 4 prototype was left or “lost” in the Redwood City
bar in California by the Apple engineer Robert Gray Powell. Recently, according to
web reports, the iPhone 5 prototype was left in a San Fransisco Mexican-style bar.
The phone was traced to an address in the neighborhood of Bernal Heights.
The man, in his twenties, found to be living at the address allowed the police to
search his home and was offered a monetary award for the device. The phone was
not found during the investigation. Last year, two men found the iPhone 4
prototype and sold it on Gizmodo Technology Blog. They both were charged with a
misdemeanor for selling the device.
Some may think coincidence? I think not. I personally believe that Apple is
using this as a method of advertising the newest model of the iPhone, and getting
the public to notice their advancement. In my opinion, they are going about this the
wrong way. For one, when the Apple Company comes out with a newer version of
the iPhone, iPad, or iPod, everyone who is interested will look into it. Secondly, if
someone at a bar, who has never once owned an iPhone, would come across the
iPhone 5 prototype then Apple’s attempt for achieving publicity on the newest
model has failed. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 will not appear that much different in
the physical appearance as much as it will be the internal factor. In my opinion,
Apple should just stick with the typical way of advertising a new product which is
through commercials, flyers, or common ads.
