Hockey For Hope
Wednesday Oct. 12th 7pm
Oakwood vs. Fairmont
Mack Hummon Stadium
Did you know that lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer in
the US?
Lung cancer kills twice as many American women as breast cancer annually and
three times as many men as prostate cancer.
Roughly 10% to 15% of lung cancer patients have never smoked.
Approximately 50% of all lung cancers occur in people who have already quit
smoking.
Less money is spent on lung cancer research than on research on other
cancers. In 2006, the National Cancer Institute estimated it spent only $1,638
per lung cancer death compared to $13,519 per breast cancer death, $11,298
per prostate cancer death, and $4,588 per colorectal cancer.
What can you do to help change these numbers? Come out and support the Hockey
For Hope Field Hockey game, Wednesday, October 12th at 7pm under the lights at
Mack Hummon Stadium in Oakwood. Two of the best field hockey teams in the area will
be playing as their intense rivalry continues. It’s the last regular season game and
Senior Night for Oakwood, so area bragging rights are on the line as well as senior
pride for both teams. Enjoy drinks and snacks, win prizes and watch some great
hockey. If you’ve never seen a game, give it a try as this will be a good one. Proceeds
from the game will go to lung cancer research: National Lung Cancer Partnership:
