Product Rendering

Mixed media.

Markers, pencils, chalk and pen were used to complete the following renderings.

Industrial Design

‘Morf’ : Diver Propulsion vehicle.

This conceptual system features two twinblade propulsion units that are strapped to each thigh. A chest-mounted battery unit incorporates all the usual depth and air gauges plus a dive computer. The blades are activated with a small remote. The motors and batteries are similar to those already in use with underwater robots. The DPV was developed with the help of the Royal New Zealand Navy who believe that there is a need for such a vehicle on the market.

Morf would propel a diver at 2-3 knots and could be used to a depth of 40 metres. The business plan prices the unit at around $3000. ‘Morf’ was exhibited at the Royal New Zealand Navy’s annual Technology Expo in 2003 and received a certificate of commendation from the deputy chief of defence of the RNZN.

Furniture Design

‘Dixon’ : Coffee table.

The Dixon coffee table was designed to a brief that stipulated that the chosen piece of furniture must be mass produced for young professionals. The unit was intended for open plan living. Materials used to produce this particular product are: chrome, polyethylene, plywood and ‘HPL’. The use of high pressure laminate gives the end user the easy option of colour choice. Images shown, are computer generated.

Forecasting

‘Vault’ : Sports sunglasses.

Vault sports sunglasses were designed as part of a forecasting project. The glasses communicate with wireless mobile devices via a bluetooth connection. An image is projected onto the inside lenses and provides the user with a multitude of information, while on the go.

Signal is transmitted through the iphone (Using ‘Motion-X GPS application) to an image projected onto Vault’s lense, using bluetooth. Information ranges from altitude, distance and speed travelled. A great hands free alternative for sports enthusiasts.

CAD Modelling

‘Blitz’ : Pepper mill.

‘Blitz’ was a result of a challenging, yet rewarding three dimensional modelling programme.

Materials & Process’s

‘Fix’ : Biodegradable tongue depressor.

Fix is a fruit flavoured, biodegradable tongue depressor that adds a bit of fun to the doctors visit. The project was aimed at providing an awareness of the process’s involved with plastic moulding. Fix was designed and built out of plastic and then cast in a silicon mould which would later be used to reproduce the product in multiple colours using an ‘Easycast’ mix. (Shown right). Once exposed to moisture, the product will begin to biodegrade.

R and D

Concept sketches, detail drawings, 3D models.

The following images highlight a combination of concept sketches and detail drawings of furniture concepts and three dimensional drafting. The drafting work involved measuring and producing computer generated models of particular furniture collections which would then be used to help clients visualize furniture in their chosen interior or exterior environments. Three dimensional drawings of clients existing or proposed homes, would be drawn up using Google Sketchup and furniture placed within.
