ANNOUNCING
Another Avenue of Testing
with the NC EMPT Program!
During the fall semester of 2006, eleven brave high school teachers and 388
fearless students successfully piloted a Web-based version of the NC EMPT
2006-2007 test using computers that stretched from Wilmington to Henderson!
Crucial instructional time can now be saved by testing outside of the classroom!
Teachers decide where and when the test will be taken and control testing dates
and student access. Clear, concise, and user-friendly instructions for students
and teachers are provided. Student submissions are immediately scored and
results will automatically be visible to individual teachers. As in the past, our
invaluable personalized student result letters will arrive at your school 3-4 days
after testing. We’ve partnered with WebAssign in Raleigh, a fully hosted, North
Carolina based service that enables quick and easy delivery of the NC EMPT test
to any computer with Internet access. Best of all, there is still no cost to
students or teachers!
Check out these comments from teachers who just pioneered the
Web-based test during the fall of 2006:
Sandra Hester, North Henderson High: I would like to report that
testing went very smoothly. Your directions were easy to follow and
the class was able to handle the whole operation from logging on our
network server to logging off in one hour.
Caroline Greenough, Cape Fear Academy: I will definitely do this
again next school year!!! Thanks for putting this wonderful
program together and keeping it in motion.
Jennifer Evans, East Davidson High: I've realized that this was a
valuable testing experience for many of my students. I'm sure that
some, if not all, of them will be expected to take online tests in
college. Hopefully this test has given them some practice for those
future tests.
Donald Moore, Jacksonville High: We had a few glitches here at
the school, otherwise it (the online testing) worked fine!
We will continue to offer a paper-and-pencil version of our math placement test
each year, and the Web-based test questions will be exactly the same as those on
the paper-and-pencil version. Note that the NC EMPT test questions are
designed to mirror the questions found on actual math placement tests currently
used at fifteen UNC institutions. High schools may choose a combination of
testing methods if they prefer – some math classes may take the paper-and-
pencil version and others the Web-based version.
Interested in Web-based NC EMPT testing??
It’s an awesome reality check of readiness for college-level mathematics!
