Accountant (FINANCIAL SERVICES SPECIALIST I)
Description:
The Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to
serve as an Accountant. This position offers a unique blend of government and private sector accounting in a fast-
paced, dynamic organization. The selected incumbent must be detail oriented with the desire to work as part of the
team to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of work processes and the effectiveness of internal controls.
Duties include working with the Senior Accountant and the Assistant Controller to perform monthly account
reconciliations and accounting systems reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner, while calculating, keying, and
documenting monthly journal entries. This position will also have responsibility for ABC's fixed asset accounting and
work with the Senior Accountant to complete financial statement preparation and analysis.
A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university and extensive knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles) and state accounting practices is highly preferred. Considerable experience in a professional
accounting environment is needed as well as proficiency in accrual based accounting and the use of financial and
various other system applications. The proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data, communicate effectively,
both orally and in writing, and to establish effective working relationships with all levels of staff is paramount.
