NEW HIGHLIGHTS at the ESH Congress in Vienna
(1) Anne-Marie Charcot-Vallin will come, the great-granddaughter of Jean-Martin Charcot.
This famous neurologist and hypnotist from the “Salpetriere” hospital in Paris worked hard for
the scientific acknowledgment of hypnosis. Among Charcot's students were Alfred Binet,
Pierre Janet, and Sigmund Freud. JM Charcot’s son was the Antarctic explorer Jean-Baptiste
Charcot.

On 18 September, in Vienna, Madame Charcot together with Catherine Bouchara, MD will
offer a dialogue and discussion with the audience. C.Bouchara will speak about “Charcot and
the two Viennese” (Mesmer and Freud) and will show a film about the voyages of JM Charcot
– created specially for the Congress participants in Vienna.
(2) ESH founding fathers will come: Gerhard Barolin, Heinrich Wallnöfer (congress honorary
president), and Peo Wikstrom.
(3) And here some of the V.I.P. symposia: Shaul Livnay will chair the Symposium “Hypnosis
as a Catalyser towards Integration in Therapy“ with A.Alladin, W.Bongartz, P.Bloom, S.Livnay,
M.Mende, M.Phillips. You can hear „Women’s Voices: the Art of Treating Women in Therapy“
chaired by Consuelo Casula, with J.Linden, M.Hunter, S.Carolusson, C.Casula. Woltemade
Hartman will present „New Frontiers in Ego State Therapy“ with G.Fraser, C.Frederick,
W.Hartmann, M.Phillips, L.Reddemann, and another symposium in German. There will be a
symposium chaired by Michael Yapko: „The Strategic Uses of Hypnosis in Addressing Major
Depressive Disorder“ with the presenters A.Alladin, C.Casula, T.Garcia-Sanchez, C.Loriedo.
Michael will also chair the symposium about “Psychotherapy and Hypnosis”. Gisela Perren-
Klingler’s symposium focuses on “Dissociation, from Normal to Pathology (Trance and
Hypnosis)“, Henriette Walter will chair the session „Medical Hypnosis“, Nicole Ruysschaert the
session „Work-Life Balance“. Berndt O. Scholz will chair the session „Brain and Hypnosis“.
Anna Gösi-Greggus will bring the symposium „Interactional Attunement in hypnosis“, Henriette
Walter and Otto M. Lesch will focus the topic Addiction.
