  E-learning Workshops



                  E-learning Skill Development Workshops
lab.3000 Incubators Education Programs aim to build design and e-Learning capabilities by investing in
new skills and knowledge. lab.3000 offers a suite of resources, training and workshops that harness the
potential of emerging and innovative technology and target the specific development needs of educators.

  All workshops run from 9.30 am – 4.00 pm on each day for full day sessions. Shorter session times are
                                            noted below.

    Some programs are run on multiple dates. Please make sure you select the appropriate date when
                                              registering.

TAFE PD will fund a limited number of places to attend any of the following workshops offered by
lab.3000:

Courses using Open Source Software:

Digital Storytelling – 4, 11 August
Duration: 3 days
Bring your story to life by combining scanned images, voice recordings and design elements to create a
three minute movie. Digital Storytelling can be integrated into all areas to enhance education, corporate
setting, or personal life. In this workshop you will be guided step-by-step through each stage of the
production process from writing a script, editing images, recording a voiceover and selecting background
music to produce your final movie.

Vodcasting – 15 August, 24 September, 27 November
Duration: 2 days
The Vodcasting (Video-On-Demand) workshop allows you to upload your own digital video production to
the web. Participants will be led on a tour through popular sites including Youtube and Myspace and will
explore the issue of web safety and the educational potential of this phenomenally popular new medium. By
using standard Apple Macintosh software, Garageband and iMovie, record and edit your video project.
Save and compress your files, upload to the web and join the YOU generation!

Digital Storytelling – 24 August
Duration: 1 day
Write and produce your own digital story in this one-day, digital storytelling workshop using free software.
Select and edit images using GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), record voice using Audacity, and
blend these elements using Photostory.

Using a Wiki in Education – 24 August, 14 November
Duration: 1 day
Discover the potential of collaborative online learning. Using the free Wiki software MediaWiki, learn to:
make an edit; format text; and add new pages, links and images. Participants will look at some of the ways
in which wikis are already being used in education.

Blogging – 5 September, 30 October
Duration: 3 hours*
Jump into the blogsphere! Learn how to create and manage you own blog in this introductory course. Learn
the principles of the web lob (blog) by creating your own web blog in this 3 hour introductory course.
Investigate the different impacts of blogging in the field of publishing and journalism. Discuss the variety of
writing styles and learn how to structure your very own blog.

2D Animation with Flash – 26 September, 23 October

Create a short 2D animation using Adobe Flash 8. This course is run by a professional animator, and
covers the basics of 2D animation including drawing tools, creating and editing symbols, frames and
timelines.

Podcasting – 28 September, 20 November
Duration: 1 day
Create your own Podcast for your class! This audio workshop provides the tools any teacher needs to
develop professional sound and audio files. These can then be shared by publishing on the internet, your
school’s intranet or downloaded onto your students MP3 players.

Claymation – 3 October
Duration: 3 days
Use stop-motion animation software to bring your characters to life. Write a story, model your characters,
capture images, sound and backgrounds to complete your own animation feature.

Making MySpace a Designed Space – 5 October
Duration: 1 day
Unlock the secrets of MySpace and learn how to make your space a visual masterpiece! Create and
customize your own personal MySpace. Participants will learn the basic principles of web design including
page layout, page properties, how to plan and structure your space, add text and images, and create links
and customise your page using HTML coding. Participants will also be introduced to Cyber-safety giving
them the necessary tools to use this exciting medium in a safe manner.

Courses using Commercial Software:

Web Design: Introduction – 3 September
Duration: 1 day
Create your own simple website in this single day workshop. Using Dreamweaver, learn the basic
principles of web design including page layout, page properties, how to plan and structure a website, add
text and images, and create links and roll-over buttons.

Web Design: Intermediate – 17 September
Duration: 2 days
Stylise your website in this workshop. Explore the advanced features of Dreamweaver and HTML code.
Add flexibility to your site using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), giving you the flexibility to format your
whole site with a few clicks of the mouse.

Creating Flash Content for the Web – 19 September
Duration: 2 days
Discover the possibilities of 2D animation! Learn how to create simple and effective animations using Flash
then bring your animation into Dreamweaver to prepare it for the web.

Build your own Adventure Game – 29 September
Duration: 2 days
Instead of playing video games learn to create them! Aimed at 12-16 year olds, participants will learn the
basic design process involved in creating a game, from the technology behind the game, to how art is
created and manipulated for use in a game. Using Adventure Game Studio, participants can begin creating
their very own adventure game!

Mobile Gaming: Creating Games for your Mobile Phone – 1 October
Duration: 2 days
Create a simple Mobile Phone game to share with your friends! During this workshop you will script, draw
and create your own game using Adobe Flash. Participants will experience the game design process
through the creation of characters and backgrounds using Adobe Photoshop,
importing graphics for use in Adobe Flash, game script and logic, optimisation for your phone and adding
sound to your game.
