You might find these questions helpful to consider when completing your Profile in

the first term of Year 3.



Time Management

3 There are many pulls on your time this year (new options, dissertation, project work, job applications

and interviews etc.). How well are you able to balance these competing demands?

3 How can you improve your time management?



Conceptual and Analytical Skills

3 How well are you applying theories and ideas from the literature to your dissertation?

3 How would you describe your analysis in your dissertation? (e.g. testing a hypothesis, tackling a

problem, analysing an issue, evaluating policies?)



Consideration about your future career

3 Reflect on the array of strengths and skills you have developed while at UCL, within your course, in

any clubs and societies, through work experience and other voluntary activities or awards you may

have been involved in.

3 Have you developed a CV which reflects these strengths and motivations?

3 Have you researched postgraduate study and/or career opportunities available to you at the Careers

Service and booked to attend employer presentations? Please make sure you complete the

Reference Form and CV for your tutor when you send out your CV or application forms.



Communication and Presentation Skills

3 How confident are you in speaking to an audience?

3 How well do you listen and respond to contributions and feedback from others?

3 How well able are you to respond to questions and think on your feet?

the end of the second term of Year 3.



Conceptual, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

3 Over the three years you have developed and improved a whole range of abilities and skills including

critical evaluation of ideas and logical argument, summarising views, interpreting evidence, applying

theories and ideas, problem defining and problem solving, the development of your own ideas and

arguments. Which ones have been most important to you? Which ones do you intend to improve and

how?



Key Skills and Subject Specific Skills

3 Over the three years you have developed many useful skills – literacy, report writing, numeracy,

fieldwork, lab skills, computer literacy, information skills, data collection and analysis, questionnaire

design etc. What are your strengths in this area and how do you plan to draw on these strengths in

the future?

3 Which ones do you hope to develop further in your postgraduate study or employment?



Final Exams

3 Are you well prepared for your final exams?

3 Is your revision up to date?

3 Have you worked out an appropriate revision timetable?

3 What do you need to do to ensure that you move smoothly through this process?



Final Review

3 What have you gained from your third year?

3 Think carefully what you have gained from the whole university experience – both academically and

non-academically?

3 Be sure you are able to articulate this to any future employer or postgraduate tutor.
