Cosmos Holidays Industrial Placement Programme

Bromley, Kent

Cosmos, one of the UK’s leading Tour Operators has great opportunities for enthusiastic and

dedicated industrial placement students studying for a Travel/Business based degree, who are

looking for a career within a Tour Operator environment.

If you are analytical, methodical, commercially minded, flexible and looking to work in a fun

environment then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

There will be job related training ensuring your continual development and also an opportunity to

utilise your academic learning in a commercial workplace.

Placements are between 13 – 15 months as your work placement will normally finish following the

induction of your replacement thus allowing your further development in management skills as you

train a new staff member in the skills you have learnt during your year. Because of this if you are

interested in applying for one of these placements you must be available to start by beginning of July

2011 at the latest and available until at least the beginning of August 2012. If, you are looking for a

shorter placement please advise us at the time of your application as this may be possible in another

area of the business.

The placements will be in one or more of the following areas:

Cosmos Holidays, Cosmos Tours & Cruises, Archers Direct, Product & Commercial -

Mainstream & Long Haul

Cosmos hasn’t become a world leading travel business by chance. It’s because we’ve consistently

maintained our competitive edge by providing holidays that our customers want. This means

bringing the most exciting new products and destinations to the holiday market and delivering great

customer experiences whilst also meeting the financial objectives of our business. Which is why our

Product teams are such a vital cog in the Cosmos wheel.

Once a product has gone to market our Commercial function takes over, managing inventory and

pricing. At Cosmos we closely analyse supply and demand vital to the leisure industry and act

accordingly. Our aim is to provide the customer with value and quality in the destinations that they

want, whilst continuously looking at new and smarter ways of working.

To be a success in Commercial you will need to have an analytical mind and have the desire to be

part of a results-driven team in a high performing organisation.

The commercial hub of our dynamic business and likened to a Stock Market trading floor, in Lates we

maximise revenue and margin in line with both departmental and overall business objectives. So it’s

all about effectively managing capacity, sales volumes, revenues and costs in order to provide a

highly competitive product offering that exactly meets our customers’ needs and work for our bottom

line too.

Customer Services & Health & Safety

Once a holiday booking is made the high standards of service continues as we deal with any other

queries our customers may have either before, during or after their holiday. For us, the Cosmos

experience starts as soon as a holiday is booked and our Customer Services team pride themselves

on the ‘concierge’ service they deliver. In this team we look for people with a passion for customer

service and excellent people skills.

Scheduled Flight Operations & Data Services

This role covers an exciting array of responsibilities working within 3 departments assisting the

Scheduled Flights team, our Hotel Operations department and in the production of Customer

Documentation.

Scheduled Flight Operations covers everything related to flights from the day a flight is booked to its

departure. We use over 70 different scheduled airlines, so you will have the opportunity to learn

about many airlines, the routes they fly, and how to book them using a global system.

Our Hotel Operations department covers all queries relating to hotel bookings, which involves

producing and analysing statistics, taking hotels off sale as and when required, and working out

costs/payments to pay hoteliers for any special deals we have agreed.

The Documentation department is responsible for the production of holiday information which is sent

to our customers. You will be involved in putting together the content, which is vital for the overall

experience our customer has on their holiday.

Essential skills required; drive, organisational and prioritising, attention to detail, flexibility with the

ability to multi-task.

The colourful world of travel is constantly evolving and offers its own unique and interesting

challenges. So whether you’re looking for your first step into the vibrant travel sector whilst at the

same time looking for a dynamic environment to boost your knowledge and expertise, you won’t find

a better place than our bright and ever developing head office functions.
