Cosmos, one of the UK’s leading Tour Operators has great opportunities for enthusiastic and
dedicated industrial placement students studying for a Travel/Business based degree, who are
looking for a career within a Tour Operator environment.
If you are analytical, methodical, commercially minded, flexible and looking to work in a fun
environment then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
There will be job related training ensuring your continual development and also an opportunity to
utilise your academic learning in a commercial workplace.
Placements are between 13 – 15 months as your work placement will normally finish following the
induction of your replacement thus allowing your further development in management skills as you
train a new staff member in the skills you have learnt during your year. Because of this if you are
interested in applying for one of these placements you must be available to start by beginning of July
2011 at the latest and available until at least the beginning of August 2012. If, you are looking for a
shorter placement please advise us at the time of your application as this may be possible in another
area of the business.
The placements will be in one or more of the following areas:
Cosmos Holidays, Cosmos Tours & Cruises, Archers Direct, Product & Commercial -
Mainstream & Long Haul

Once a product has gone to market our Commercial function takes over, managing inventory and
pricing. At Cosmos we closely analyse supply and demand vital to the leisure industry and act

want, whilst continuously looking at new and smarter ways of working.
To be a success in Commercial you will need to have an analytical mind and have the desire to be

The commercial hub of our dynamic business and likened to a Stock Market trading floor, in Lates we
maximise revenue and margin in line with both departmental and overall business objectives. So it’s
all about effectively managing capacity, sales volumes, revenues and costs in order to provide a
highly competitive product offering that exactly meets our customers’ needs and work for our bottom
line too.
Customer Services & Health & Safety
Once a holiday booking is made the high standards of service continues as we deal with any other
queries our customers may have either before, during or after their holiday. For us, the Cosmos
experience starts as soon as a holiday is booked and our Customer Services team pride themselves
on the ‘concierge’ service they deliver. In this team we look for people with a passion for customer
service and excellent people skills.
Scheduled Flight Operations & Data Services
This role covers an exciting array of responsibilities working within 3 departments assisting the
Scheduled Flights team, our Hotel Operations department and in the production of Customer
Documentation.
Scheduled Flight Operations covers everything related to flights from the day a flight is booked to its
departure. We use over 70 different scheduled airlines, so you will have the opportunity to learn
about many airlines, the routes they fly, and how to book them using a global system.
Our Hotel Operations department covers all queries relating to hotel bookings, which involves
producing and analysing statistics, taking hotels off sale as and when required, and working out
costs/payments to pay hoteliers for any special deals we have agreed.
The Documentation department is responsible for the production of holiday information which is sent
to our customers. You will be involved in putting together the content, which is vital for the overall
experience our customer has on their holiday.
Essential skills required; drive, organisational and prioritising, attention to detail, flexibility with the
ability to multi-task.
