MILWAUKEE ARTBEAT HOSTS ARTBEAT IN THE HEAT FUNDRAISER
First Annual Outdoor Music and Arts Festival
Milwaukee, Wi. - July 19, 2010 – Milwaukee Artbeat presents its first annual outdoor
music and arts festival and fundraiser on Saturday, July 31st, 2010 at the Hide House in
Bay View from 12 to 10p.m.
Milwaukee Artbeat is an organization that creates and supports art and music programs
for Milwaukee’s youth in need. Currently 30 of the 105 K-8 Milwaukee public schools
are lacking an art program and 35 schools are without music classes constituting over
20,000 students without access to art and music. Milwaukee Artbeat strives to provide art
and music classes to these students by raising funds through a day-long outdoor festival.
“The fact that so many of our students in the Milwaukee Public School System are
without art/music classes is unacceptable. It hurts our students and ultimately our
community. Studies have shown the importance of the arts in the development of creative
thinking skills and other important measures for students’ academic growth,” explains
Annie B, Milwaukee Artbeat President. “It’s an issue of funding and the priorities of our
decision makers. We hope that this event calls attention to this serious issue as well as
exposes our rich body of local talent.”
The music and arts festival will be held at the Hide House located at 2625 S. Greeley
Street, one of the largest physical arts communities in Milwaukee. Activities during the
event will include live music by The Vitrolum Republic, Aly Jayne, Hoosier Millionaires,
Jeanna Salzer Band, D.C. Monroe, Ratbomb and Family Power Music. The event will
also feature live performance art and fire-dancer, Tonya Quiroz will perform. Children’s
activities like face-painting and artist showcase booths will be available throughout the
day. Food and beverages will be for sale. All proceeds will go towards the investment of
art in the classrooms of Milwaukee Public Schools.
All local artists and organizations are welcome to host a booth during the event. Please
