2003 June: Affects of Skill Development in A Computer Webmaster Camp on Middle School
Students Determined to be placed “At Risk”. ($4,020- part of a Diversity Grant awarded
to Anona Smith, PI by the Office of the Provost in conjunction with the LIFT Project). I
directed a computer camp for middle school students determined to be placed “at-risk” to
develop Webmaster skills and give them experiences on a college campus. While this is
also a service and described in V. of this dossier, data is being collected and the students
followed to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. ($4,020, part of Diversity
grant awarded by the Office of the Provost, NCSU).

Steelman, J. D. (1991-93). SuperStories. These programs are books on disk which are the exact
duplication of Jason & Nordic’s Turtle books. The books give users independent access
to the stories with options to read the text word by word or sentence by sentence while
the text is highlighted. Titles completed include: Sarah’s Surprise, Fair and Square, A
Smile From Andy, Andy Finds a Turtle, Andy Opens Wide, and Patrick and Emma Lou.
Steelman, J. D. (1991). Time Coding Conversion HyperCard Stack. This is a HyperCard stack
designed to allow the user to enter time data and it will convert it to the number of
seconds the observation took place.
Steelman, J. D. (1989-90). CamilleWriter. A HyperCard program developed to assist
individuals with cerebral palsy and limited physical ability. The program may be
used for augmentative communication regardless of the cause of the disability but
was specifically designed with the physical restrictions faced by those with
cerebral palsy. The program also allows the individual to manipulate text, i.e.,
spell words, put together sentences & paragraphs, load files, save files, and to
access any ASCII text saved on the disk including text downloaded from an
electronic bulletin board.
Steelman, J. D., Chambliss, M., & Tucker, D. (1989). Organizing and Summarizing
Information. An interactive video program designed for use with ED 105 students,
college freshmen scoring below a specified criterion on the SAT. The program was
developed using a Macintosh computer with HyperCard and a videodisc on the subject of
AIDS.
Steelman, J. D. (1989). Metaphors. A HyperCard program developed to introduce and
reinforce the concept of metaphors. The program was field tested with college freshmen
in ED 105 classes.
Steelman, J. D. (1984). Kindergarten Registration Program. An Applesoft BASIC program
created to manage information on kindergarten students enrolling in Mariam Boyd
Elementary School. Student information was recorded, organized, printed, and form
letters printed to parents of the students lacking specific information.
