AN ACT to amend the Oanterbury Oolle~ and the Oanterbury Title.
AgriculturalOollege Act, 1896., ,/* [29th July, .1927.
BE IT ENACTED by the General·, lembly of New Zealand in AJA,
Parliament assembled, and by the/authority of the same, as
follows :-
1. This Act may be cited as t~ Oanterbury Oollege and the Oan- Short Title.

Subsidies payable 5. (I) For the purposes of this section thexpression " voluntary
out of Consolidated contribution" includes any devise, bequest, or, ift of money, land, or

subsidies shall, without further appropriatv->n than this Act, be payable
out of the Consolidated Fund as follows
(a) A subsidy at the ~ate .of one J1?u~d for .every one pound of
voluntary contrIbutIons whfh IS avaIlable for and used
solely as a capital endownJent from which the income is
available for the purposes /nf the Agricultural College:
(b) A subsidy at the rate of te4shillings for everyone pound of
any other voluntary convfibutions:
Provided that the total amou:qyt of subsidy payable in respect of
any voluntary contribution receiv~ll by the Agricultural College shall
not exceed the sum of twenty-five 1housand pounds.
(3) For the purposes of thisl section the Minister of Agriculture
shall be the sole judge of the valiUe of any land or othe,;r property and
of its suitability for the purposfit for which it is given, and no subsidy
shall be given unless the said jMinister is satisfied that such land or
other property is suitable for ,~uch purpose.
(4) Unless the Minister/, of Finance approves, subsidy with

respect to any particular cqhtribution shall not be payable in any
financial year to an amounv:/ exceeding ten thousand pounds, and in
the case of any voluntary/icontribution the value of which exceeds
that sum the balance of ~ubsidy shall be paid in such instalnlents
as the Minjster of Finanqe shall determine, but so that the whole
subsidy payable sha,ll be paid within not more than five years from
the date of the receipt of the contribution~
(5) All subsidies parid pursuant to this section shall be held
wholly and without deduction as a capital endowment of the Agricul-
tural College. Any mpneys for the time being comprised in any
such ca,pital endowmelft may be invested from time to time in any
'securities in which tlJUst funds Inay be invested pursuant to the
Trustee Act, 1908, ana the income derived therefrom shall be avail-
able for such of the purposes of the College as the Minister of
Agriculture mayapprove.

(6) The Governor-General may from timep6 time, by Order in
Council~ make such regulations as may be re,@:uired for the pu~poses

8. The Boargl'of Governors shall, during the month of April in Animal report and

report shall q011tain a statement, in such form as·' the Governor-General
directs, of /tbe total assets and liabilities as at~llEfend of the year,
together ~ith an account of receipts and payments, and of income and
expend~J3ure, showing the financial transactions for the year;' and a copy
of suc;tl report and of such accounts, duly audited by the Audit Office,
shall/be laid before Parliament.
