Pick and Choose
Directions: We will be reading “Jacob’s Rescue.” This book is centered on a survivor of the holocaust.
We will be reading and discussing the book in class. Yet, you will have your choice on what you want
to do for your project on this book. You must not rely only on in class time to complete you project.
Some of the project will be done at home. It would be an excellent idea to talk to your parents or
guardians about what project would best suit you. You must choose one of the following. These
projects will take the place of a test grade. This means they are extremely important.
Project A: Play or children’s book
Create a play or children’s based off the story
Must include all important details of the book
The play or children’s book must be in your own words
2-3 minutes in length for the play or 8-10 pages for the storybook
Include backdrop with a setting drawn on it for the play or illustrations for the book
Typed script for the play or handwritten pages for the book that include the main characters
from the book
Classmates who will act out the play or you will present your children’s book to the class
Project B: Reflections
Reflect on every other chapter of the book (This means a total of 10 separate reflections.)
Reflections must be at least 3-4 sentences in length
Reflection are to be your opinion or your ideas about what is going on in the book
They are not summaries of what happened
Project C: Read three articles or a book about a Holocaust survivor or victim that is age appropriate
Write a one page or type a two page report about what you read
Include details about the person’s life
State you thoughts or ideas about what the person went through
Project D: Visit the Holocaust Museum with a guardian
Write a one page or type a two page report about your experience at the Holocaust Museum
in St. Louis
The report should include what your experience was like and what you learned in your visit
Project E: Lecture
Research a time period that was similar to the Holocaust and explain how it is similar
Express what society should learn from these experiences
Discuss all of these items in a 2-3 minute presentation to the class
The lecture should include a visual aid (poster or PowerPoint)
