Conferences of a new Recommendation on the effective utilization of the amateur services in
disaster mitigation and relief operations
Definition of Question 9/2: Identify study group Questions in the ITU-T and ITU-R Sectors which
are of particular interest to developing countries and systematically, by way of annual progress
reports, inform them of the progress of work on the Questions to facilitate their contributions to the
work on those Questions as well as, ultimately, to benefit from their outputs in a timely manner

Dear Sir/Madam,
1. Following the consultation conducted through Administrative Circular CA/16 of
10 January 2001, I am pleased to inform you that more than 70 per cent of the responses received
approve the Recommendation on the effective utilization of the amateur services in disaster
mitigation and relief operations. The two sets of comments received will be submitted for
consideration by the forthcoming meeting of Study Group 2 to be held in Caracas (Venezuela) on
10-14 September 2001.
2. Therefore, in accordance with § 5.3 of section 4 of the Appendix to Resolution 4
(WTDC-98), the Recommendation is considered approved. The text of the Recommendation
(ITU-D 13) will be included in the next ITU Notification. It will also be published in English,
French and Spanish and will be available on the Web.
