Activity B
The 5 options for disposing waste include:
1) STORING waste on your farm up to 12 months
- you would have to ensure that it was safe e.g. in containers
2) taking your waste to be RECYCLED or DISPOSED of on a LICENSED
SITE
- you can find these sites in the phone book or the internet;
- these sites are usually very specific about the type of waste
they can dispose of
3) get a CONTRACTER to take the waste away
4) REGISTER for an EXEMPTION LICENSE with the Environment Agency
in order to RECYCLE or DISPOSE of the waste on the farm
- The farmer can apply for these licences
e.g. – disposing of hedge cuttings and crop waste produced on the farm.
- crushing and chipping bricks and stones in order to use them as hard
surface on the farm.
5) Trying to get a WASTE CONTROL LICENCE from the
ENVIRONMENT AGENCY or the ability to landfill on your FARM –
usually this is expensive and usually only given to large businesses.
For the above options, give an example of a waste product which
would be disposed of by that method.
