( A n o n y m u s 2000). Abbreviations of book titles follow the list given in Flora

Europaea ( T u t i n et al. 1993), those of journals follow Botanico-Periodicum-Hun-

tianum ( L a w r e n c e etal. 1968) and B-P-H/S ( B r i d s o n 1991). For publications

omitted from these works, title abbreviations follow those proposed by H o l u b et

al. (1978) and H r o u d a et al. (1978). In the distribution sections (Rozsirenie na

Slovensku), citations of literature published up to 1952 follow F u t a k et D o m i n

(1960), sources from 1953 onwards were cited as mentioned above.

Geographical distribution and lists of localities are presented according to the

widely adopted phytogeographical division of Slovakia ( F u t a k 1980). In compar

ison with the original division by F u t a k (1966), some new geographical names

were taken into account (see the map in Flora of Slovakia IV/1 by B e r t o v a 1984).

For a better use of this issue, the adopted phytogeographical division is given also

here, and can be found following the Introduction. On the inner side of the book-

jackets, a map illustrating the phytogeographical districts is shown. The names of

towns and villages are given according to Directory of the towns and communes of

the Slovak Republic ( A n o n y m u s 2002), the names of geographical entities are

taken from "Kartograficke informacie" ( K o l a r i k o v a et M a j t a n , vol. 10-12,

1979a, 1979b, 1981) and from available geographical nomenclatures. For more

accurate location and better orientation, localities are specified in the following

order: name of town, village or other type of place (settlement, court, mill, etc.),

geomorphological entity (hill, mount, river), in some cases also orientation (E, W,

N, S). In mountainous phytogeographical districts the name of the nearest town or

village is generally omitted.

The present issue Flora Slovenska V/3 is the result of research conducted within

the framework of the project "Diversity of the flora of Slovakia with special at

tention to the trees", with the contribution of other co-operating authors. The Re

search and Development Support Agency (APVV, Agentiira na podporu vyskumu

a vyvoja; grant no. 51-000702, partly also grant no. 51-009202) and the Scientific

and Technical Authors Society (SAVOL, Spolocnosf autorov vedeckej a odbornej

literatury), both Bratislava, Slovakia, are gratefully acknowledged for financial

support.
