Roselle Pop Warner
Sport Parent Code of Conduct
Children’s sports are supposed to be fun – for the children. Unfortunately, many parents, fans and coaches don’t realize
that their actions, whether verbal or nonverbal, can have a lasting emotional effect on children. Too many children are
leaving sports activities because the fun is unfairly taken away by adults.
That is why Roselle Pop Warner is implementing for the 2nd year the following Code of Conduct for parent(s) and their
guests to abide by at every meeting, practice, game or any Central Jersey sanctioned competition.
Preamble
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core
principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is
achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character.”
I therefore agree:
I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any Game officials, Roselle Pop Warner Board
Members, Coaches, players, or parents such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane
language or gestures.
I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes.
I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, game officials, Roselle Pop Warner Board Members and
spectators with respect.
I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
I will respect the game officials and Roselle Pop Warner Board Members and their authority during all Pop
Warner games, events, practices and/or competitions and will never question, discuss or confront coaches and/or
Board Members at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches and/or Board Members at an agreed
upon time and place.
I will not engage in any tactics that will give my child an unfair advantage before and during any games.
I will abide by all of the rule and guidelines of the organization.
I will make sure my guest(s) abide by all of the rules and guidelines of the organization.
I also understand the statements below:
I and/or my guest(s) will not: 1) verbally threaten or physically abuse; 2) attempt to intimidate; 3) be flagrantly rude, or 4)
use profane language or obscene actions towards an official, coach, players and/or Pop Warner volunteers.
I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subjected to disciplinary action that
could include, but is not limited to the following:
Verbal warning by Roselle Pop Warner Executive Board.
Written warning from Roselle Pop Warner Executive Board
One game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by the organization
Season suspension
I also understand that by signing this Code of Conduct, I am indicating that I will be held accountable for the actions of my
guests and/or the parent/guardian of the child that has not signed this document.
