6. Subcommittee leadership – Nancy
a. Nancy states that when she returns at the end of May, the subcommittee
will need a co-chair and asks everyone to think about volunteering for this
position.
b. In addition, she asked if anyone would be available to help Barbara Tuck
with organizing the agenda, minutes, etc. during May. Jason (UCF) will
help Barbara in May.
7. FCLA Update
a. Load testing- George and Barbara re: form
i. The subcommittee discussed the form and whether email addresses
should be collected for future use. The subcommittee decided to
forego the collection of email address from volunteers and let the
form stand the way it is. The load testing will take place on May
9th at 3 p.m. for 15 minutes. Approximately 100 volunteers will
participate.
b. Server issues
i. Server performing well
c. Changes to ENDECA made during the week to be reviewed?
i. In order for the subcommittee to know what changes FCLA is
making, Josh stated he will post changes to the list so all are aware
of changes to ENDECA.
ii. Josh inquired as to the priority for working on specific tasks.
Subcommittee agreed that FCLA should work on issues which
relate to ENDECA functionality first before working on tasks
which regard aesthetic issues.
iii. (+) to hide or not hide – added
1. The subcommittee wanted FCLA to change the “+” sign
back to the word “show” which regards the display of the
LC/NLM breakdown of results.
iv. Display changes? Box around the front of the OPAC and list of
libraries on the bottom.
1. FCLA has made some changes to the look of each
Library’s ENDECA.
v. Call number browse now available but it doesn’t seem to be
working correctly. Josh will look into this and also he need to
discuss call number display with UNF offline.
vi. NCSU display very nice – Rebecca suggests that we look at this
display as a model.
1. Subcommittee members discussed the appearance of the
two search boxes in the NCSU interface and whether this
was something they wanted for our ENDECA. Some
members voiced their opinion that they like the “one box”
search option we now have because it seems more
simplified.
8. PSPC Update – Rebecca Bichel (PSPC Chair)
a. Recommendations to PSPC for FCLA
i. Aleph reserves task force developed.
ii. Web developer recommendation – Michelle and Rebecca will
discuss further in a Monday teleconference.
9. TSPC Report – Ya’aqov (UNF, Liasion to OPAC from TSPC)
a. He made proposal to FCLA regarding the TOCs -
b. Suggestion to replace Genre but to take it only from 655
i. Josh to work on in the next few weeks.
10. Usability studies – John Blackburn (FSU)
a. UF and FSU have completed the testing portion. Analysis ready for next
week. John will not be at the Friday meeting but Amy B. will report.
Marilyn Ochoa (UF) will also attend to elaborate on testing results.
11. Old issues to discuss***
a. What determines relevancy on the display rankings?
i. Karen sent email explaining how it works. Someone will resend
the email. Josh said that FCLA can make adjustments to this but
they need examples.
b. Collapsing facets
i. MARC 650 00 with MARC 650 02 (MESH) to reflect both
subfield and MESH to avoid repetition and capitalization (to
normalize)
1. We can do it easily by going back to the lower case which
would solve it but subcommittee does not want to do this.
2. This is a more complex problem and needs more study and
reflection.
c. Searching additional indexes (list from Aleph browse…)
i. Action: Send out to LIBOPAC –L as an idea
d. Examples of OPAC display designs –
i. NCSU?
1. Most subcommittee members like the simplicity of what we
currently have.
e. Locations not showing up in some libraries (i.e., USF, FAU, FAMU,
UWF).
i. Josh working on this
f. Different MARC records showing up for local and union report by BT and
NC.
i. Load problem. They are hoping this will not happen in the future.
g. Different number of results is displayed in contrast to the number of
results in the facet. Josh comments that the number of hits in the facets
are not reliable because they are based on the union, merged, marc record.
h. Diacritics still a problem (i.e., écrits results different from ecrits results)
i. FCLA working on this.
i. Apostrophe resolved?
i. FCLA working on this.
j. Results display: add box to jump to a specific record like “Jump to”
i. Unclear what the real issue is here.
k. Sort by call number does not work properly.
i. FCLA working on this.
12. New issues to discuss***
a. “Has not arrived” issue from Rich Bennett (new item as of this
morning)
i. Action item: Will send out to LIBOPAC-L for feedback
b. Discuss issue of Aleph e-shelf – Josh
i. Not available in ENDECA. It would be nice to have but v.18 has to
be online for it to work well. We will wait on this issue for now.
c. Can we generate new book list? – Amy/Josh
i. FCLA will add this to the list to work on (UF and USF already
uses a new book list) and other libraries can decide to do the new
book list if they want.
d. History of search feature – Doug
i. Session search history – FCLA will work on this.
e. Link to union catalog from Advanced or? – Doug
i. Subcommittee suggests placing link to SUL Union in footer.
Meeting adjourned at 1 p.m.
