HALIGONIANS GO OVER THE EDGE FOR EASTER SEALS
Halifax, September 17, 2008 – In it‟s 5th year the Easter Seals Drop Zone remains one of
Halifax‟s most unique and thrilling special event fundraisers. The Drop Zone will kick off with the
Moonlight Rappel on Thursday, September 18 as a few thrill-seeking „Superheroes‟ will rappel
from the top of downtown Halifax‟s tallest building, 1801 Hollis & Duke after the sun sets.
Spectators are invited to enjoy the show, and check out the exciting performance by special
guest, Canadian Military personnel as they show off their amazing rappelling skills.
When the sun rises on Friday, September 19 starting at 8:00AM over 80 of the remaining
rappelers will become Superheroes for the day as they rappel down the 21 stories of 1801 in
support of Easter Seals Nova Scotia. To qualify to participate in the Drop Zone, Superheroes
raise a minimum of $1500 that is used to support programs for children, teens and adults with
physical disabilities living in Nova Scotia. The Easter Seals Drop Zone will wrap up at
approximately 5:00PM, as one lucky Superhero will win a Mercedes-Benz SMART „FORTWO‟
Pure Automobile. Superheores will receive a ballot for raising $1500 and an additional ballot for
every $500 after that.

Thomas Merriam, President and CEO of Easter Seals Nova Scotia, says community support for
Easter Seals programs and services, through events like Easter Seals Drop Zone, is integral for
its ongoing success. “We‟re thrilled to see the interest and continued enthusiasm for this
innovative event,” says Merriam. “The financial support from the Easter Seals Drop Zone is
very important to the children and adults with physical disabilities we serve, and the event is
also a great opportunity to inform the local business community about what Easter Seals Nova
Scotia is all about and how the money we raise stays in our community.”
