OUR IMPRESSIONS ON TREATMENT OF MALIGNANT TUMORS WITH THE
PREPARATION CAMELYN
In spite of the fact that investigation of the malignant tumors has a long history,
their etiopathogenesis and treatment are still obscure, if we do not take into account
treatment with some conservative methods, which in the case of early diagnosis of the
disease sometimes gives satisfactory results.
The 28th Congress of Surgeons discussed the issue of application chemical
preparations for treatment of malignant tumors by perfusion method, which protects the
organism from side effects of the preparation.
At present, sufficiently known preparations are:
A lot of materials have been generated in the literature about treatment of the
malignant tumors. Data of the authors (N.N. Petrov, S.A. Kholdin, 1952, N.G. Blokhin,
1960, A.F. Lariononv, 1962, I.N. Smirnov, 1959, T.G. Kholeeva, 1960 et al) testify the
fact.
According to the modern opinions, the malignant tumors are of polyetiological
character, with this respect the issue of treatment of the malignant tumors is variable.
The above preparations effect the tumor tissue, at the same time, cause
significant alterations in blood and have a negative effect on the organism. For that
search for the new therapeutic agents in a subject of care by oncology and all the news
in connection with this issue are of great interest in theoretical, as well as in
achievements of practical medicine.
In this point of view, the preparation "Camelyn", that has passed a long way of
experimental and clinical investigations under the supervision of the Academician K.D.
Eristavi, supplied by B. S. Maghlakelidze, is very interesting. The above preparation
from the very beginning was prepared homemade by B. Maghlakelidze himself, and
after the order of 1964 issued by the Pharmacological Committee of the USSR, the
preparation is manufactured under the name of "Camelyn".
The preparation Camelyn represents a biostimulant substance made of a special
kind of bee-honey and has antitumoral properties. As a result of its introduction, tumor
growth inhibition was observed and sometimes its disappearance. It is used for
treatment of sarcomas and carcinomas of oesophagus, lung, urinary bladder and
kidney. Course of treatment is 25 days. After ending of one course there is a rest during
8 days, in total 2-5 courses. Is injected intramuscular 1 g 2-4 times a day together with
Novocaine, 75-90 g are used for one course.
Purpose of our work is to monitor action of the preparation Camelyn on different
forms of malignant tumors, study alterations of blood in dynamic and general condition
of the patient.
At the Chair of General Surgery, faculty of Medical Hygiene and Stomatology,
Tbilisi State Medical Institute, the preparation Camelyn is being applied for treatment of
malignant tumors from 1960 for 96 patients in pure form, as well as together with the
surgical intervention.
From 96 patients 25 women, 71 men, in the age from 42 to 75 years.
According to the disease: ventricle cancer – 9 cases, intestinal tumors 11 cases,
retroperitonal tumors – 2 cases, lung tumor – 8 cases, cancer of pancreatitis – 6 cases,
cancer of liver – 2 cases, hypernephroma – 3, cancer of urinary bladder – 46,
seminoma – 4, penis cancer – 1 case.
According of to the stages of disease: in the first stage – 7 patients, in the second
– 40, in the third – 32, in the fourth – 17 patients.
Selection of stages was performed as a result of clinical examination of the
patients (blood test, accent on number of haemoglobin, X-ray examination, radiography,
tomography, pyeloureterography and retropneumoperitoneum, etc.). Diagnosis were
established morphologically in 31 cases.
After diagnosis to the patients was prescribed treatment with the preparation
Camelyn for preparation of patients for surgery. Such combined treatment was
performed for 40 patients. 56 patients before surgery were prepared with the
preparation, but they as soon as their general condition improved refused to be
operated and were discharged.
At investigation of long-term results (in the written form) in 21 cases from 96 we
received positive answer, 7 patients died, 9 letters were returned due to the change of
address, and in the remaining cases we did not receive an answer.
Preparations supplied till now for treatment of malignant tumors cause number of
negative biochemical shifts, that is why most of them are not applied now or are applied
with restrictions.
The preparation Camelyn is a honey preparation and in addition to the fact that it
has a specific action on certain forms of malignant tumors, it has a satisfactory effect on
the general condition of patient, blood picture improves, appetite and improvement of
general condition of the patient begins.
Due to such properties of the preparation and due to the fact that it gas no side
effects on the organism, it may be applied to treat diseased with all forms of the
malignant tumors.
Sometimes following to treatment with Camelyn inoperable form may become
operable. Thus, it makes possible to prepare a patient for surgery and after operation
enables to continue the treatment course.
In certain cases we obtained positive results by application of the preparation
Camelyn, to illustrate the said we shall consider several cases.
Patient G.N., 54 years old (case history 7678). Was admitted to the clinic on November
23, 1963 with pains in the stomach area connected with feeding and, generally, in grave
condition. Duration of the disease 6 months.
After clinical investigations the gastric ulcer was diagnosed, he was operated - partial
gastrectomy. During the operation was found a tumor gastric ulcer with metastases in lymph
nodes.
Pathomorphological diagnosis – stomach cancer.
After the operation he was treated with the preparation Camelyn. He was discharged in
good condition. He took three courses of treatment. At present he is in good condition.
Patient S.U., 48 years old, male, (case history 8008). Was admitted to the clinic on
November 1, 1962. Complains – pain in the area of right kidney, has hematuria, was ill during
several years, was treated in different urological departments with the diagnosis of urolithiasis.
By the clinical investigations was diagnosed a calculus in the right ureter. The calculus
was removed from the right ureter. After the operation began hematuria from the left kidney,
left-hand lumbotomy was performed, tumor of a kidney was diagnosed. Nephroctomy was
made.
Phatomorphological diagnosis – hypernephroma.
After operation general condition of the patient improved. He was treated with Camelyn.
Was discharged after 142 days. He took four courses of treatment. At present he feels healthy,
is working.
Patient S.I., 65 years old (case history 4038). Was admitted to the clinic on June 5, 1964
with dysuria and hematuria. Duration of the disease – two months. Disease began from frequent
urination and hematuria.
Clinical investigations: cystoscopy – on the back wall of the urinary bladder a walnut size
mushroom-like tumor, abnormal changes.
Urinary bladder tumor was diagnosed. The patient took three courses of treatment with
the preparation Camelyn. He was called and examined by cystography – no filling defect. has
no dysuria. At present is in good condition.
Patient D.M., 68 years old (case history 1457), male. Was admitted to the clinic on
February 11, 1960 due to dysuria and hematuria. Duration of the disease three months. By
clinical investigations prostate cancer was diagnosed. For surgery the patient was prepared with
the preparation Camelyn. In several days from admittance, the patient complained of sharp pain
in the right hip joint, X-ray was made, tumor metastasis was found. From this moment the
patient was treated with the preparation Camelyn. He was discharged in an improved condition,
had no pains, he took four courses of treatment. At present he feels well, works physically.
The preparation Camelyn was applied by the clinic for 96 patients.
The preparation Camelyn is a biostimulator, which in certain cases helps the
regress of the tumor tissue and activates the regeneration processes of tissues.
