This year SLT voted and approved a healthy snack
policy for all grades K-5.
Why a Healthy Snack?
NC rated 11th in childhood obesity.
Research proves children perform better when
they have 9-10 hours of sleep, a balanced diet,
including 2 nutritional snacks a day.
Please check our web-site for our policy and
guidelines on bringing in a snack for your child.
2nd grade will have their working snack around
9:45 a.m. each morning.
We will not provide a snack for your child, please
pack your child’s snack daily.

CMS Assessments K-2: Summatives, DIBELS, Running
Records, CoGAT
Grade Level Student Supplies
2nd Grade needs a composition notebook for Science
Lab…please have this for your child’s first lab day.
Required Reading for 2nd Grade is 5 times per week for 20
minutes (Mon-Thurs, plus Fri, Sat, OR Sun). Please record
the title, pages read, and signature in your child’s agenda.

Math – Math Tools, Combinations of 10, Addition and
Subtraction
Social Studies – Citizenship, Community
Science – States of Matter
Organized using the standards
Begins with an open-ended problem or a project with
more than one approach or answer
Student-centered
Students become problem solvers and decision makers.
Teacher becomes more of a guide or coach
Concludes with realistic product

Allows for a variety of learning styles

Your child will need:
• Flash drive
• 2 pocket folder
A time to connect & prepare our children for the 21st century
A variety of blocks will be offered
Some last all year, others only a semester, and others only a
quarter
Will occur 2 days per week
You must come to our meeting September 8th at 6:00 p.m.
for more information and how to have your child sign up for
their Connect 21 block

and Responsibilities Handbook (no hard copies will be
provided this school year). Go to the Parents tab, click
Resources, then select Handbooks from upper left menu,
and view the handbook. Finally, view the links below to
print, sign and return the following forms:
