Minutes of teleconference meeting
September 9, 2008
Participants: Heather Modlin, Varda Mann-Feder, Bruce Hardy, Carol Stuart, Roy
Ferguson
1. Planning for Educator’s Day at PEI
Carol noted that David Connolly (conference chair) had booked a room for our session
from 1-5 PM. Planning was in progress to have Grant MacEwan college sponsor a wine
and cheese gathering after the session. Carol will send out a note to all persons on her
Educator’s list to see who is planning to attend the session.
The following two objectives were established for the Educator’s Day session:
Information sharing in regards to history, background, survey and mandate
of the CYC Accreditation Task Force
Feedback on potential accreditation models
Discussion groups
The following tasks were picked up by Task Force members:
Roy will prepare a two-page overview of the background to the CYC Task
Force for distribution at the session
Heather will prepare a summary of the Social Work accreditation model
Varda will prepare a summary of the Psychology model
Bruce will prepare a summary of COA/CARF accreditation models
Carol will prepare a summary of the Nursing Accreditation model (Roy to
forward links to her)
2. Other
Roy noted that a proposal for funding the Task Force was still being jointly considered by
the Ministries for Child and Family Development and Advanced Education but a decision
was not yet forthcoming. He noted that SCYC at UVic has a program review scheduled
for Spring 2009 and that the School is prepared to use this as a preliminary run for
whatever state the CYC Accreditation model is in at that time. Carol indicated that
Ryerson is doing their program review in fall 2009/spring 2010 and a subsequent trial
could occur in that program.
It was also noted that Gerrard was exploring a possible funding opportunity for Grant
MacEwan to evaluate their program against the competency model developed at UVic.
Heather reported that there were no new projects undertaken by the National Council and
that they were in a period of consolidation.
3. Next Meeting
The next Skype meeting of the Task Force is set for Thursday, October 16. The time
has been set for 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Eastern Time. Bruce noted that he will be in
New York but will have access to a computer and will be able to participate in the Skype
conference.
