					THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG FACULTY OF LAW PAM BAKER SCHOLARSHIP IN HUMAN RIGHTS

The Pam Baker Scholarships in Human Rights was established in March 2002 for the purpose of honouring the work of Ms. Pam Baker in furthering the protection of human rights in Hong Kong. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who has been admitted into the LLM (Human Rights) degree programme at the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong. The scholarship shall be awarded under the following regulations: 1. 2. 3. The scholarship shall be known as the “Pam Baker Scholarship in Human Rights”. The scholarship shall be in the value of HK$20,000. The scholarship shall be available for award to a student who is a Hong Kong resident entering full-time or part-time studies in the LLM (Human Rights) degree programme. The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of the following selection criteria: a.) good academic results; b.) demonstrated interest or achievement in the area of human rights; c.) proven personal qualities, eg.: enthusiasm, initiative, service to community; and d.) proven financial need (if applicable). In any year when no candidate is considered to have reached a standard worthy of the award, no award of the scholarship shall be made. The holder of this scholarship may hold other academic scholarships granted by The University of Hong Kong, subject to the maximum amount stipulated by the Senate.

Administrative Arrangements 1. The scholarship shall be open for application at the time when applications for admission for fulltime or part-time study in the LLM (Human Rights) degree programme are made. The scholarship shall be awarded by a selection committee comprising three persons who need not be limited to members of the Faculty of Law. Members of the selection committee shall be nominated by the Dean of the Faculty. Each year, the Secretary of the Faculty shall inform the Finance Office and the Secretary of the Board of Academic Awards of the name of the recipient. The Finance Office shall arrange for HK$20,000 to be deducted from the capital sum (capital plus whatever interest has accumulated) of the fund established for the Pam Baker Scholarships in Human Rights for the award of the scholarship.
