Data- Paper
• 2007-2008- Contract with Willamette Education
Services
• Used to buy paper from Office Max, WES has more
selection and bulk deals
• About $6000 per year for in school paper
purchasing, $2000 for specialty paper
Online
• Some schools have saved money and the
environment by moving almost all
assignments and information online.
• Crescent Valley already has a good online
system geared towards parents (newsletter
and CVPO), as well as do some teachers
(assignments and class info), but about ¾ of
teachers do not have online access to class
work.
Online Ideas
• Teachers encouraging students to type up
assignments and email it to them.
– It is not plausible for some departments (math,
some sciences) to follow this procedure.
– Some teachers are set in their ways and do not
want to change their teaching style.
– The solution to this is to promote this method to
teachers who can realistically include this
technique into their style.
Reusing Paper
• There are different ways to reuse and
conserve paper.
– Print double-sided
– Use scratch paper
– Print multiple assignments on one sheet of paper
if it is small enough
Implementation
• Double-Sided
– Make instruction sheets for teachers to place by
printers to educate on how to print double-sided
– Give teachers containers to store scratch paper in
by their classroom printers and the printers in the
shared copy machines
Closing Thoughts
• Sustainable purchasing is a difficult area
because of the school district is committed to
different contracts.
• A lot of changes can be made, but awareness
and cooperation is needed at every level.
• Our hope is that future purchasing groups can
implement our ideas and build off of them to
create a model of sustainable purchasing here
at Crescent Valley.
