Summer Reading Contest Rules – All Activities
CONTEST OVERVIEW
Members will have opportunities to earn points for their Club by participating in designated contest
activities during the months of July and August, and win an overall grand prize. At the end of each
month, the Clubs with the most points win prizes: $250 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third.
At the end of the contest, the Club with the most points accumulated over the two months will be
awarded the grand prize of $500. Clubs can win up to $750 for participating!
CONTEST ACTIVITIES
Book drive
Members organize, market and run a book drive to collect as many youth-relevant books as
possible for the Club. The goal is to grow the reading resources available to Club members
and expose them to a wide variety of reading material.
Earn a base of 100 points for holding the drive. Accumulate one (1) additional point for each
book donated to the Club teen or learning center.
To receive points for hosting this event, the Club advisor must send an email to
promotions@myclubmylife.com which must include the following:
o Club Organization name
o Club Unit/Branch name
o Names of members who organized the event
o Advisor name
o Contact email address
o Contact phone number
o Total number of books collected
o Photo of books collected (photos may be published on the site)
o Photo of the event in progress (photos may be published on the site)
o By sending the email the Club advisor confirms the validity of the number of books
collected
Teen-written book review
Tweens and teens write a review of their favorite book and submit it to myclubmylife.com.
Many of the reviews will be published on the site. Reviews should be a minimum of 6 full
sentences and must be completely original and fully authored by the submitting member.
Reviews should be written using language and grammar appropriate for publication but may
be either formal or informal and use a style that is engaging to the author’s peers. Reviews
may be submitted in either English or Spanish.
Earn 50 points for each book review submitted.
Members whose reviews are published will be recognized on the site by their first name only
and Club organization.
To receive points for each book review written, the Club advisor must send an email to
promotions@myclubmylife.com which must include the following:
o Name of the member who authored the review
o Club Organization name
o Club Unit/Branch name
o Advisor name
o Contact email address
o Contact phone number
o By sending the email the Club advisor confirms that the review is 100% original and
has not included any plagiarized material
Comments on MCML stories
Members can write comments on myclubmylife.com about the articles posted. All comments
must be appropriate for publication and must include a mention of the member’s Club for
points record-keeping.
Earn two (2) points each time a member publishes a comment on one of the MCML stories
on the book section.
Comments are submitted directly on myclubmylife.com by entering them into the comment
section beneath the article. Members submitting comments must include their first name
only, Club Unit name, City and State in order to be awarded points. (ex: Katie, Cope Branch,
Denver, CO) or (ex: Katie, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Cope Branch)
Teen-created reading list
Tweens and teens submit a list of 4-8 books that they recommend to their peers. Book lists
can have a theme or just be the member’s favorite reads. Many of the lists will be published
on myclubmylife.com. All book lists should be appropriate for a tween or teen audience.
Earn 10 points for each book list submitted. Not all lists will be published, but an effort will
be made to publish as many as possible.
Members whose lists are published will be recognized on the site by their first name only and
Club organization.
To receive points for each reading list, the Club advisor must send an email to
promotions@myclubmylife.com which must include the following:
o Name of the member who compiled the list
o Club Organization name
o Club Unit/Branch name
o Advisor name
o Contact email address
o Contact phone number
Library card drive
Members organize, market and run an event to get as many members to sign up for new
library cards as possible. This event may also include a tour of the library or visit to the Club
by the local librarian. The goal is to encourage more community youth to utilize the local
library and inform them of all the resources available at the library such as computers,
magazines, fun activities, videos and more.
Earn a base of 100 points for holding the drive. Accumulate five (5) additional points for each
member who gets a new library card.
To receive points for hosting this event, the Club advisor must send an email to
promotions@myclubmylife.com which must include the following:
o Club Organization name
o Club Unit/Branch name
o Names of members who organized the event
o Advisor name

o Contact phone number
o Total number of new library cards issued
o Photo of the event in progress (photos may be published on the site)
o By sending the email the Club advisor confirms the validity of the number of new
library cards issued
Teen-written magazine or Web article review
Tweens and teens write a review of a magazine article and submit it to myclubmylife.com.
Many of the reviews will be published on the site. Reviews should be a minimum of 6 full
sentences and must be completely original and fully authored by the submitting member.

Earn 25 points for each book review submitted.
To receive points for each magazine article review written, the Club advisor must send an

o By sending the email the Club advisor confirms that the review is 100% original and

Reading Café
Members plan, market and host an event to excite their peers about reading and spoken
word. Space should be designated for an afternoon or evening for teen members to share
spoken word performances or read from their favorite publications. Snacks, smoothies or
coffee should be served to create a “café” experience.
Earn 100 points for hosting and 1 additional point for each member who participates.
To receive points for hosting this event, the Club advisor must send an email to

o Club Organization name
o Club Unit/Branch name
o Names of members who organized the event
o Advisor name
o Contact email address
o Contact phone number
o Total number of member participants
o Photo of the event in progress (photos may be published on the site)
o By sending the email the Club advisor confirms the validity of the number of member
participants
CONTEST RULES
Members, ages 12-18 are eligible to participate in designated contest activities each month. Members will
earn points for successfully completing the activities outlined above.
Points must be earned by the last day of the month in order to be applied to that month. Entries that are
received after the final day of the month at midnight will not be counted. If the entry is for an activity
that is also designated for the following month, the points for entries received after midnight on the final
day of the month will be awarded to the following month. No points will be awarded after midnight of
August 31, 2010.
All entries into the contest must include the member’s Club organization name as well as the branch or
unit name. A single Club unit or branch will accumulate the points earned by their members.
Organizations with multiple branches will not be able to combine accumulated points from multiple sites.
At the end of each month, the Club unit or branch with the most points will win a prize: $250 for first
place, $100 for second and $50 for third. At the end of the third month, the Club with the most points
accumulated over all three months will be awarded the grand prize: $500.
All points must be verified by BGCA. Each Club submitting points is required to have their Chief
Professional Officer for their organization sign off on their final points tracking form. Forms that are
not signed by the CPO will not be accepted.
TRACKING POINTS
Clubs are responsible for tracking their own points on the points tracking form. BGCA will track all
contest submissions and points-earning comments on the site in order to verify all points. The points
entry form must be submitted by the Club advisor at the end of each month. Forms must be emailed to
BGCA at promotions@myclubmylife.com by midnight on the 1st day of the following month (August 1,
September 1). Points tracking forms submitted after that time will not be accepted. All points entry
forms must be signed by the Club Organization’s Chief Professional Officer to verify the fidelity of the
points accumulated.
