JOB DESCRIPTION

FORENSIC INTERVIEW SPECIALIST

The Interview Specialist is directly responsible to the Executive Director of the Advocacy Center

for Children of Galveston County (ACC).

Skills needed include verbal and writing proficiency, knowledge of child development, child

sexual and physical abuse dynamics, technical experience in operation of video equipment,

comfort with graphic and descriptive sexual behaviors and language and demonstrate flexibility

in high stress situations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:



 Conducting all videotaped interviews of child victims and child witnesses;

 Preparation of caretaker/victim and any other child witness for the interview process;

 Scheduling interviews and notifying all appropriate agency professionals of scheduled

appointments;

 Maintenance of video room, equipment, storage and interview tools;

 Responding to subpoenas and providing testimony before grand jury, civil and criminal

cases;

 Participating in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings;

 Complete all appropriate statistical and case tracking documents;

 Conduct training to professionals and community education as needed;

 Participation in on-going training to maintain state of the art interview methods;

 Management of Rainbow Room and all that entails, i.e. inventory, maintain records,

monitor access, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS



 Bachelor’s degree in human services related field (i.e., psychology, social work,

sociology, criminal justice, counseling).

 Preferred- Experience in investigative child abuse cases (as police officer or social

worker), demonstrated ability to conduct satisfactory interviews, attendance at

professional training workshops on child abuse, experience testifying in court.

 Experience in computer data entry and word processing

 Good communication and organizational skills

 Able to work independently

 Demonstrates ability to be flexible, accepting

 Demonstrates positive outgoing attitude

 Must submit to criminal history and Children’s Protective Services background check

 Must execute confidentiality statement.
