The Prophetic Sequence

What’s a Prophetic Sequence without a timeline? A house without a roof?
Perhaps, something akin to a book without a cover. Nigh a half century ago
I eagerly digested, thanks to the efforts of a fundamentalist Presbyterian
evangelist who had led our family to Jesus, these mysterious prophetical
charts depicting the entire Bible in graphic format—with special emphasis
upon the prophetic, the End of Days.
As a teenager I was wooed to these, and this larger than life book with its
grandiose foldouts and the like. Man, this was great stuff—and it was all
backed up by Scripture. Little did I know at the time that THE GREATEST
BOOK ON DISPENSATIONAL TRUTH, by the famed Clarence Larkin,
was part and parcel of the indefatigable efforts of the evangelical
Premillenarian-Pretribulationists, known also as Dispensationalists.
It went with the territory—if you ―got saved in those days‖ you were
immediately introduced to the world of American mainline evangelicalism
which, sooner or later, included these revelations of the past, present and
future of God’s economy (how God deals with humankind in various
―ages‖), including the ―separation‖ of Israel and the Church, the future
Antichrist, the pre-tribulational rapture of the Church, the future seven-year
―tribulation period‖ – a host of sundry judgments, along with the literal
1,000-year Millennial reign of the Messiah, and, finally, the end of the world
as we know it: The Eternal State – at last! Of course, this was all laid out
nice and neat in various ―dispensations‖ – and there were scores of them; i.e.,
charts!
And, for some odd reason—I guess to prove the Bible’s accuracy—there
were graphics and commentary on the Great Pyramid and other peculiar
items which today bespeak of the New Age and secret mysteries of, quite
frankly, pagans!
Many Catholics and less-enlightened
Protestants (as I was told) despised the
likes of Larkin and cohort, C. I.
Scofield—making their graphics and
commentary all the more attractive!
Notwithstanding, I earnestly studied
Larkin’s charts (incidentally, by
―profession‖ he was a mechanical
engineer; hence, his training as a
draftsman came in handy – he then
became an American Baptist Bible
teacher and pastor), and on occasion I
used these charts to share the gospel
with my friends—carrying around this
huge book (actual weight, 3 lbs.) with my Bible to attest to its contents.
Looking back, I’m not sure if the Bible was attesting to Clarence Larkin or
Clarence Larkin was attesting to the Bible. In point of embarrassing fact—
Larkin’s ―Greatest Book‖ was almost like a Book of Mormon to me. Not
really an ―extra revelation‖ like that of Joseph Smith or the nigh sacred
commentaries of Ellen G. White and/or for that matter the ―Oracle of God‖
writings of well-intentioned folks like Herbert W. Armstrong or Witness Lee
or Bible-redoes of the Watch Tower Society . . . but it came real close.
I do not consider Larkin’s efforts spurious nor part of the ―Great Apostasy‖
of the Last Days; however, they did and still do bespeak of a hyper-
dispensationalism gone amok and a Weltanschauung outdated and tainted
with the culture of his time. What C. I. Scofield and his Bible were to
American fundamentalism and Dispensationalism – even so, Clarence
Larkin’s book was to American Christian Fundamentalism the supreme
graphic presentation of that doctrine and the most widely circulated
illustration of God’s dealings with the Gentiles, Israel and the Church ever
drawn by human hand—for its time, it was revolutionary, captivating!
LUTHER AND HIS WOOD CUTS
Luther’s 21 ―woodcuts‖ of The Revelation, and their decidedly anti-Papal
message connecting the Romish Church to the system of antichrist, became
the most graphic expression of the Reformation. Prior to the ability of the
masses to read the Bible in their native tongues—they were mesmerized by
graphics which portrayed spiritual revelation. These graphics were
circulated, not in expensive illustrative Bibles initially published for the
wealthy, but upon widely distributed flyers with these same graphic wood
cuts mixed in upon their Scriptural backgrounds, causing the unlearned to
commence their quest to match the graphic with the written word—i.e.,
learning to read and write took off!
Even so, Larkin’s book on dispensational truth graphically enshrined and
epitomized the superlative efforts of the dispensationalists and their
influence upon American evangelical fundamentalism. Reformation’s
woodcuts and Larkin’s charts were, if you would, bookends of
Protestantism’s birth and its American rebirth—art forms of unparallel
genius which communicated to their generation and beyond, truths, though
imperfect, to the masses and majesties of their time.
Hence, for this direct descendant of Luther and recipient of Larkin’s largess,
to chart in graphic format past, immediate and future eschatological
surmising is in keeping with these Biblicists’ efforts to ―convey the
moment‖ and, along with its imperfections, give visual clarity to the
Prophetic Sequence in order to communicate to these same masses a
compass to traverse the present and guide us through the convergence of the
eschatological perfect storm.
Graphics galore can never,
however, supplant our gaze upon
the Son of Man, Who in the midst
of the churches disseminates –
precisely like the Universal
Lampstand betwixt the Two Olive
Trees (the Two Sons of Oil – the
Priesthood and the Kingship –
Joshua the High Priest and
Zerubbabel the Governor) – His
PROPHETIC LIGHT. Indeed, the
Testimony of Jesus is the SPIRIT
OF PROPHECY . . . for it is upon
our PROPHET, to enunciate and
illuminate the truth, that we rivet
our attention. Only He knows the
―times and seasons‖ – only He
commands utter allegiance . . . we
earnestly await the coming of the
Son of Man in glory.
Without further adieu – we at the Tribulation Network present the following

Naturally, given the ineptitude of this writer when it comes to drafting and
transferring electronic graphics – which could enhance and communicate the
prophetic sequence – please, nevertheless, consider this the most
rudimentary of presentations (likewise, we would welcome a Larkin or artist
like Lucas Cranach the Elder of Luther’s era to depict the apocalyptic
disclosures with flare hereunder, however, now presented in simplicity; to
wit – and be it understood, this timeline is not inclusive – yet it seeks to

The dominant Semitic style of Revelation commands a view in which the Se
