Jeyhan Karaoguz, Broadcom

 Personal skills and background:

Jeyhan Karaoguz, Ph.D. has been involved in developing state-of-the-art high-speed

wireline/wireless communications products for the past 10 years. In his present and

previous job capacities, he has represented IBM, Motorola, and currently Broadcom

Corporation in various IEEE 802 Working Groups, where in all cases he had made key

technical contributions toward a final standard. Most notably, from 1992 to 1998, his

technical contributions in the areas of modulation, coding, and synchronization were

included in the IEEE 802.3 100BaseT2 Fast Ethernet Standard, and in the IEEE 802.14

Cable Data Networks Draft Standard. He had also assumed the role of chief technical

editor for the PHY layer section of the IEEE 802.14 Draft Standard. Since 1998, Dr.

Karaoguz has helped develop various wireless LAN communications products and

participated in the 802.11 and 802.15 Working Groups. Since 2000, Dr. Karaoguz has

been a voting member in the IEEE 802.15.3 committee, where he has made a

comprehensive PHY layer proposal achieving 11 to 55 Mbps for the High Data Rate

WPAN Standard. His contributions in the areas of modulation, coding, and signal

acquisition was largely adopted in the 802.15.3 draft approved by the 802.15 WG. He has

also served as the assistant editor for the PHY section of the 802.15.3 Standard.

 Education:

Jeyhan Karaoguz has M.Sc (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees in electrical engineering.

His M.Sc thesis focused on circuit level simulation of mobile communications systems.

His Ph.D. dissertation was on signal equalization in Rayleigh Fading Multipath

environments. During his industry career, he has published numerous journal and

conference papers on modulation, coding, and synchronization aspects of

communications.
