Death Penalty
1. Death penalty is necessary to prevent vigilantism or revenge killings.
Alvaro (PRO):
The death penalty is the way to go. Many murderers just walk out of jail and go do the exact same thing,
or some don’t even go to jail. If people want a stop to this they should just sentence the “bad guy” to
death. Executing murderers can be considered morally good because the streets are being cleaned up and
saving the lives of innocent people as Casy’s critical thinking states.
(“Death penalty: morally defensible .” Casys’ critical thinking. Feb 08. 2011

Sophie(CON):
Concerning death penalties, it might not be the fair to do for everybody. Even though it might save
thousands of people, witnesses might imply sentencing an innocent person. The website of Death Penalty
Information Center state that the majority of cases, there is a recurrent error in the witness recognition.
("Causes of Wrongful Convictions." Death Penalty Information Center. Web. 05Feb. 2011.
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/causes-wrongful-convictions). In any case, death penalty might be an
egoist decision, because the person or jury might be thinking on their own good, not as a community
good.
Alvaro
The death penalty is not an egoist decision because when the person is condemned the jury is thinking in
how good it will be to the community and other people. Even though it’s said not to be fair, it’s the best
way to wipe crime, when the death penalty is approved by the state, people will not give it a second
thought before they commit a crime. It is also the cheapest way, better than maintaining murders 30 years
or more in jail concluded (“Pro-death-Penalty.”Deathpenalty.Feb 09 2011.

Sophie
I think that being in jail for 30 years is the best way to learn a lesson. Besides, death penalty might lead to
many consequences later; convicting an innocent person has happened MANY times before and even
though death penalty has worked in some cases, it is never ok to kill somebody. According to
Confucianism, common good is searched for everybody, but harmony might be disrupted with killing
somebody. Nobody has the right to put away somebody´s life, even though he/she has killed many people
more.

Con Conclusion: To kill somebody, no matter the crimes, sins or whatever, is never ok. Nobody has the
right to put away somebody´s life. I provided proof that many times witnesses convict an innocent person,
therefore, never putting away the real murderer.
Pro Conclusion: The death penalty is a very smart thing to do for many reasons. First of all the death
penalty is way cheaper than maintaining the murderer in prison. Also the death penalty cleans up the
streets for a safer society and saves the lives of innocent civilians. Just by approving the death penalty it
will help decrease the amount of crimes because people will give a second thought to it, no one wants to
get kill, even if it’s the killer.
