Post: Schools Game Organiser
Responsible to: Director of Sport
Salary: Actual Salary £27,052
Duties and Responsibilities: This is a jointly funded post to deliver the core specification of National School
Games programme at level 1 and Level 2 across the partnership of senior and primary schools engaged
with the Sirius Academy partnership. The post holder will also work with the Humber Sports Partnership
to assist in the facilitation of the National School Games level 3 County School Games throughout the year.
Specific responsibilities include:
Support the Principal and other colleagues and work in accordance with the academy’s mission
statement and its statement of Aims and Values
Contribute to the ethos of the academy by setting a good example to colleagues and young people
Ensure that all work is carried out in an inclusive and accessible manner to all young people
regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender or socio-economic background.
Engage actively in a performance management process and use it to develop the post holder’s
personal and professional effectiveness.
Continually develop and enhance the effectiveness of the School Games Organiser role engaging in
continuous professional development and training
Contribute to the planning process of Sirius Academy and Humber Sports Partnership as required.
Key areas of responsibility
Work with key partners to produce area competition calendars for primary, secondary and special
schools including level 1 and level 2 National School Games, incorporating pathways and
connectivity to level 3 and county competitions.
Lead the coordinated delivery of the calendar of events throughout the year and in particular the
development of a workforce to activate the School Games.
Lead the integration of young leaders in local and County School Games programmes as required.
Manage and develop Level 1 and Level 2 school Games for the Sirius Partnership and support the
organising of district teams/ schools to enable progress between levels 1, 2 and 3
Ensure the delivery of competition is linked effectively with talent identification, leadership and
volunteering and school club link programs
Liaise with key partners to ensure work is carried out with a joint vision as far as is practicable to
achieve common goals and aspirations in relation to school and community sporting priorities.
Competition and Talent Pathway
Lead the development and delivery of an inclusive inter and intra schools competitive sports
programme, Including National School Games at Level 1 and 2, in association with the Hull School
Sport Strategy Group, Head Teachers, Heads of PE, NGBs, Teacher Release staff and all other
relevant bodies
Work with Humber Sports Partnership, Hull School Sports Strategy Steering Group and other
School Games organisers across the Humber to ensure local competitions fit within county and
national competition frameworks and plans
Develop and communicate a local calendar of competitions and festivals.
Develop and support a team of local competition organisers (teachers, Sports Leaders, club
members, to support the delivery of the programme.
Ensure the delivery of competition is linked to Talent Identification, leadership and volunteering
and school club links programmes.
Work closely with Humber Sports Partnership, Hull Schools Sport Strategy steering group, and
county NGB leads to help support and signpost young people to appropriate clubs and squads
across a range of sports and support those with talent to progress through the Talent Pathway.
Volunteering and Coaching
Lead the development of a Sirius Academy Partnership Volunteering programme, including
appropriate training and development and deployment opportunities.
o Develop and coordinate a CPD calendar for young leaders in the partnership which links to
the competitions they host and support.
o Support and signpost further volunteering opportunities in connection with the Humber
Sports Partnership.
o Monitor hours logged
Support and promote the National Young Ambassadors programme
Work with partners and Humber Sports Partnership to provide high quality and sustainable
deployment opportunities for young leaders
Support Schools in their deployment of coaches and develop appropriate coaching support leading
into competition with quality assurance processes implemented.
Co-ordinate the training of Leaders and Volunteers through appropriate programmes (e.g. Sports
Makers) and seek additional resources to support development
Work with local Clubs to support sustained engagement of Semi Sporty young people through
nationally funded programmes (Sportivate)
Participation and Engagement
Support Schools in the promotion and development of physical activity programmes with a focus
on healthy active lifestyles
Recognise which schools have lower participation rates and manage the targeted development of
sustainable high quality sports programmes across the partnership where gaps exist
Manage the delivery of change for life clubs programme and promote school club links initiatives.
London 2012 Legacy
Develop and deliver programmes to support a clear London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Legacy
plan for the area
Promote the “Get Set” programme to schools and encourage cross curricular work around the
Olympic and Paralympics Games
Through programmes based on London 2012 seek to promote international learning band
development
Level 3 responsibilities
Work with the Humber Sports Partnership to set up the infrastructure, systems and processes
required to deliver a successful County School Games in 2012 and 2013.
Work with National Governing Bodies of Sport to deliver logistical needs of the level 3 County
School Games.
Work with other School Games organisers and the Humber Sports Partnership to establish and
coordinate a volunteer workforce for the County School Games
Coordinate activities with schools, academies, colleges and private schools outside of the School
Games organiser networks across the Humber region to encourage participation in the Level 3
county games competition.
Work with other School Games organisers across the Humber to ensure as far as possible
alignment of competition plans.
General
Liaise with local partners to develop a 2 year programme that reflects local, District, County and
National competition plans
Ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation processes are in place to meet funding criteria and
Humber Sports Partnership needs
Contribute to the effective management of budgets and provide necessary accounting information
to relevant bodies including local management groups
Carry out risk assessments as necessary and have an awareness of Health and Safety issues as they
relate to the post
Undertake necessary administration tasks to ensure effective communication and the smooth
operation of the School Partnership as it relates to the School Games Organisers role.
Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and
responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a
permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms following
consultation with the recognised trade unions.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/MENTAL SKILLS:
1. Valid Full Clean Driving Licence with access to own transport.
2. Good numeracy/literacy skills

5. Understanding of current trends and initiatives related to PE & Sports development within
Schools and communities
6. Experience of Planning successful Events and competitions
7. Knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
8. Knowledge and understanding of Child protection and safeguarding in Sport
