Norton Wildlife Watch
About us
Norton Wildlife Watch is a group of young people aged 6-16 based in
Norton. Our Watch group began in 1988. Norton is on the River Derwent
close to Malton. We enjoy many activities from pond dipping to quizzes. We
meet at Norton College every other Monday night and sometimes at
weekends and we have great fun. We often help in the community by doing
litter-picking or tree planting.
Our aim is:
Our motto is :
To make a difference Making a local
difference with a
global impact
We have many different activities and of course all are super cool and super
fun. In the summer we do trips to different places to discover the wildlife there.
We film what we do to spread the word and record our environment. We have
made 4 videos in the last 10 years.
We don’t just work in Norton; in fact we don’t just work in England or the UK.
We work all over the world! We have been to Kenya, America, Japan and
Canada and S Korea for International Children’s Conferences on the
Environment. We have great time at these conferences and learn about
others who are making a difference all over the world. You can make your
voice heard!
We were named national Watch Group of the Year in 2008.
Our special site is Norton Ings
a wetland beside the River
Derwent.
We carry out surveys on the
Ings to monitor the plant &
animal life there since the area
flooded and flood defences
were built.
