The White Blackbird
It’s the Cats Pyjamas at Stoke Place with Time For Tea’s Vintage Pyjama Party
Friday 8 May 2009, 7.00pm – 3.00am
Time For Tea - best known for putting on some of the capital’s most elegant soirées (The Modern Times, The
Zeppelin) - is bringing back the grand old country house party in style with a series of spectacular
quarterly events at 17th century country house hotel, Stoke Place in Buckinghamshire. The White Blackbird
series begins with an eagerly anticipated vintage Pyjama Party on Friday 8th May. Bring out those smoking
jackets, slip into some silk lounging pyjamas and be taken on a nocturnal journey at Time For Tea’s exclusive
new residence.
Time For Tea’s carriages will be stationed at East, West and Central London pick up spots to whisk you away
to the rural idyll of Stoke Place, where the house and grounds have been turned over exclusively to the party
goer’s pleasure, for the ultimate slumber party.
Once you have alighted on the long gravel driveway, beside the croquet lawn, the only strenuous choice
you face is in which order to examine the assembled delights. Sweep your partner off their feet in the
decadent Ballroom where Johnny Chrome and Silver (Modern Times, Rakehells, The Zeppelin, Blitz Party) will
be playing a swinging selection of toe tapping hits followed by Hitman Hearn (Bethnal Green Working Men’s
Club, Shunt Lounge) as he turns up the tempo with style to ensure you are in the dreamiest of moods. Twin
and Tonic and their swing band will take to the stage to delight and amuse with their vocal talents and
dancers will perform a series of staged performances throughout the evening culminating in a DJ set from
Daniel the Dandy (Modern Times).
In the Games Room a healthy intellect can be diverted towards chess, draughts, or perhaps the more
tactical elements of strip twister, a theme which can be carried on outside with the croquet and outsize chess
sets. If you’ve worked up a healthy appetite, there will be an evening dinner service available to leave you
sated, thanks to Stoke Place’s award winning chefs.
Pass by Miss Moons Photo Parlour and request a vintage portrait set against a star spangled background.
Vent in the Pillow Fighting Ring; knock ten bells out of your nearest and dearest in a room dedicated to
feathery bashing whilst an umpire adjudicates to ensure against foul play. Find out ‘What the Butler Saw’ as
Ryan Styles, Fancy Chance and Millicent Binks delight, each in their own bedroom-based performances.
Time For Tea’s eerily accurate Tarot Reader – Russella - will be at hand offering short readings high on drama
for those that are brave enough - and if you are, a series of four intimate Victorian séances will take place
from midnight to 1am in a darkened attic room, waking guests from centuries gone by. As the clock strikes
twelve indulge yourself in a spectacular Midnight Feast or if you feel like reclining take a trip to the Cinema
Room to take advantage of the cocktail service whilst watching a series of vintage films from the comfort of a
giant bed.
If you require a little fresh air why not frolic in the grounds strewn with hammocks (complete with duvets and
pillows) and hanging lanterns, lulled by an opera singing Bo Peep tending to her (live) sheep and lambs on
the lawn. Or contemplate the reflection of the moon at picnic tables decked with crisp white table cloths,
candelabra and festooned with fruits. Just as you feel like ‘the cats pyjamas’ Time For Tea’s chariots will
depart at 3am leaving you wondering whether it was all just a magical dream.
A lucky few will have booked the very limited number of room packages available, including dinner, bed and
breakfast. They will be able to enjoy the benefit of a bar that never closes as the party continues into the
night.
This event marks the first of a series of events hosted by Time For Tea to take part at Stoke Place and The Olde
Bell both part of the Dhillon Hotel Group.
