Patient Safety
Enhancement: Inpatient nurses will see an Influenza Vaccine task for
Influenza Screening selected patients. This procedure is very similar to the
Pneumococcal Screening task. A task will be generated
unless:
the patient is less than 50 years old.
ORCA shows history of Influenza vaccination from
this Fall (2008).
the patient has a recorded allergy to eggs or the
influenza vaccine.
Nurses must update the Immunization tab (found in the
Patient Info tab) if a patient reports receiving a flu
vaccination in the Fall of 2008.
Medication Outpatient clinics will soon be documenting vaccine
Documentation administration on the immunization tab.
Effective October 1
Enhancement: New functionality for Nurse Medication Review will be
Nurse Review Education implemented on October 21.
Required education, which must be completed by
October 20, is now available:
1. Go to www.orcaed.washington.edu
2. Click on the Nurse Medication Review link
3. Complete the interactive module
4. Follow the links to the UWMC quiz
5. Print quiz results and turn in to your manager
This module takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Enhancement: The Admission Information section of the Admission Hx
Pressure Ulcer, Central Line, PowerForm now includes fields to document the presence
Urethral Catheter of the following at admission:
Requirements Pressure Ulcer(s) present on admit
Indwelling Urinary Catheter present on admit
Central Line present on admit
This fulfills a new CMS requirement. Nurses are to select
all that apply.
Effective October 1 at noon.
Enhancement: A Pressure Ulcer on Admit section has been added to the
Admission Hx PowerForm Admission Hx PowerForm.
When the Pressure Ulcer(s) present on admit
Documentation checkbox is selected, the Location and Stage sections for
Pressure Ulcer #1-5 will pop up. Location and stage can
be documented for up to 5 different pressure ulcers.
Once documentation on pressure ulcers is complete, click
the blue circular icon to continue documenting on the
remaining sections of the Admission Hx PowerForm.
The pressure ulcer/wound care data entered on the
Admission Hx PowerForm will be automatically added to
the Pressure Ulcer Wound Care PowerForm, which can be
completed later.
Staff will still get the pressure ulcer task on admission.

Enhancement: CBI parameters have been reorganized to make charting
CBI Parameters and reviewing CBI data easier:
Bladder Irrigation parameter is below Urethral
Catheter Data. This will group Urinary Description,
Foley Output, and CBI together.
CBI discontinued has been added below CBI started
(see eMAR).
Effective October 1 at noon.
Documentation
Enhancement: Urine Output Description Info has been added to
Urine Output Description Data Tubes/Drains/Nets between Condom Cath Data and
Urethral Catheter Data.
Effective October 1 at noon.
Enhancement: Respiratory Therapy Teaching Outcomes have been added
Respiratory Therapy to the Respiratory Therapy Discharge Instructions section
Discharge Instructions of the Interdisciplinary Discharge Instructions PowerForm.
Effective October 1 at noon.
IT Services has completed three remediation activities in

conjunction with Cerner to improve system stability and
