THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE Challenge
The Entrepreneurs’ Challenge is a business plan competition, which aims to foster the
successful development of new ideas into investment-ready, early-stage companies. It
stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship and creates genuine commercial prospects.
The University of Adelaide eChallenge, the Singapore Challenge, is an ‘OPEN’ challenge targeted at the following
categories of participants:
Current Year 1 to Year 3 Polytechnic students in any discipline.
Polytechnic Graduates of age 26 years and below as at 15/07/2009.
This competition is open to teams of 2 to 5 members, which may be formed by individuals either solely from one of the
categories or a combination of the 2 categories.
The University of Adelaide eChallenge, the Singapore Challenge, is organised by the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education
Centre and sponsored by the Ngee Ann Kongsi. The Singapore Challenge is held in conjunction with The University of
Adelaide eChallenge, held in South Australia which is organised by the Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and
Innovation Centre (ECIC), a faculty in the University of Adelaide.

The ECIC mission is to encourage entrepreneurship and wealth creation by developing capability in the management (including project
management) of innovation and its commercialization. The ECIC, located within The University of Adelaide’s faculty of Engineering,
Computer and Mathematical Sciences, offers a range of award and customized education programs that focus on entrepreneurship,
innovation management, commercialisation and project management.
The University of Adelaide will be offering the Bachelor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship program in Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education
Centre. The program is designed to develop and inspire individuals with an interest in starting or assisting innovative ventures that
have the potential to make significant impacts on markets, economies and communities.
Graduates who hold a Diploma (or equivalent) from a recognised Polytechnic are eligible to enroll in the program. For more

Professor Noel Lindsay, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation and Director of the ECIC at The
University of Adelaide will lead the eChallenge in facilitating the lecture and workshops for participants.
After completing his PhD in Commerce at The University of Queensland, Professor Noel Lindsay co-founded,
developed, and harvested successful businesses in Australia, South Africa, and Malaysia. He also worked in
corporate insolvency and then private equity as a Director of a successful venture capital firm that invested A$1m -
A$3m in growth-oriented entrepreneurial ventures. As Professor of Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation and
Director of the ECIC at The University of Adelaide, Professor Lindsay leads a team that teaches and undertakes
research in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, technology commercialisation, and project management.

Submit the Team registration form (including a brief resume for each of the team members), together with your
team’s Concept Proposal following the template.
The Concept Proposals are judged.
All the teams are given an opportunity to attend the Venture Showcase Lecture, conducted by
Professor Noel Lindsay.
Teams will be given an opportunity to present at the Venture Showcase.
Finalist teams will be notified via email.
Finalist teams will be invited to participate in the Business Planning Workshop
Submission of Business Plan.
Final Judging Day.
The participating teams will be invited to attend the Evening Talk & Cocktail Reception, and the Award Presentation
Ceremony.

Concept Proposal
Teams must submit printed copies of their Concept Proposal following the template by 30 SEP 2009 WEDNESDAY.

Concept Proposal must be typed using a minimum 12 point font, on A4 plain paper, with margins of at least 2cm and with a page
number at the bottom of each page. It must not exceed two A4 pages. Concept Proposal should cover the numbered headings listed
in the template, but the subheadings are not specifically required and are intended as a guide only.
Concept Proposal will be marked by a number of judges, and feedback will be made on each entry. Concept Proposals will be judged
primarily on the level of innovation displayed, and the commercial potential of the overall business idea. Teams will also be given the
opportunity to make an impact and impress the judges at the Venture Showcase to be held on 10 OCT 2009 SATURDAY.

Finalist teams will be notified of their success via email by 12 OCT 2009 MONAY.
Teams must submit printed copies of their Business Plan following the template by 09 NOV 2009 WEDNESDAY.

issues. The Business Plan will be distributed to a panel of judges for background reading prior to the oral pitch.

Eligibility
The University of Adelaide eChallenge, the Singapore Challenge is open to :
Current Year 1 to Year 3 Polytechnic students in any discipline.
Polytechnic Graduates of age 26 years and below as at 15/ 07/2009.
This competition is open to teams of 2 to 5 members, which may be formed by individuals either solely from one of the categories
or a combination of the 2 categories.
Each Polytechnic may submit more than 1 team to participate in this competition.
A team cannot submit business ideas that have received outside funding from private investors, venture capital firms,
or other industry sources. A scholarship will not be regarded as funding for the purpose of this paragraph.
Projects that have previously won awards in national or international competitions will not be eligible to participate in this
competition.
A competitor may not enter the eChallenge as a member of more than one team.
A team may not submit more than one Concept Proposal or Business Plan to the Challenge.
If at any time during the Challenge, a team or competitor fails to meet the eligibility requirements, that team or competitor will be
disqualified.

Withdrawal of a Team from the Challenge
A team may withdraw from the eChallenge at any time, providing that notice is addressed to the Organiser in writing, and signed
by the Primary Contact Person and one other member of the Team.

It is a condition of entry that the Teams who have progressed to the final round will make themselves available to the
