New iPhone and iPad App Prepares Delaware’s
Future Drivers

DOVER, Del.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Governor Jack Markell’s initiative of more efficient and effective
government has taken another step forward today with the release of a free driver license practice test app for the
iPhone and iPad produced through an exciting new collaborative effort.
“In order to serve our citizens well and to inform them of the services government provides, we need to meet them
where they are and use the forms of communication they use,” said Governor Jack Markell. “Not only is a mobile
app appropriate for this purpose based on the age group that is generally preparing to take their first driving test, but
it is a relatively inexpensive and direct means of providing services.”
DE Driver Test, which is now available on the iTunes store, was created through collaboration between the
Delaware Department of Motor Vehicles, the Delaware Government Information Center (GIC) and Delaware
Interactive.
In fact, this app is the first joint creation of Delaware State Government and Delaware Interactive, part of the NIC
family of companies which was recently engaged by the State to increase the number of online services available to
Delaware citizens and businesses through the state’s official portal, http://www.delaware.gov.
“New applications such as this practice test are a great way to introduce people to the many resources available
through delaware.govand, in turn, increase their overall awareness of eGovernment,” said Secretary of State Jeffrey
Bullock. “As more and more people turn to smart phones for information, the need for these apps will only increase.
I am confident that Delaware will be able to keep pace with that demand, thanks in large part to our collaboration
with Delaware Interactive.”
The driver license practice test is designed to provide the necessary foundation to safely meet the responsibilities as a
new driver.
“It’s a free and convenient tool to assist in preparing people for the written test required to obtain a driver license,
but it can just as effectively be used by existing driver license holders as a refresher for testing on the rules of the
road,“ said Jennifer Cohan, Director of the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicle.
For those without access to an iPad or iPhone, an online version of the test can be accessed through the DMV’s
website, www.dmv.de.gov. Android and Windows 7 platform versions are expected in the coming weeks.
