Junior High Art
Semester One Course
The fine arts program is intended to develop interest, appreciation and sensitivity
to the aesthetic aspects of the fine arts in our culture.
Goals:
a) To lead to the development of skills and techniques in art.
b) To provide opportunities for the student to use skills and techniques in a non-
competitive atmosphere.
c) To develop creativity, self-expressions and a positive sense of self-worth in the
students.
This is a project-oriented class.
Evaluation will be continuous.
All projects will be marked out of 10, 15 or 20, unless otherwise stated.
There are two reporting periods. The final mark for the course will be based on
the following distribution.
First Report 37.5%
Second Report 37.5%
Final Exam 25%
It is understood that there are circumstances when activities are not able to be
completed the day they are assigned. To accommodate this reality, the school is
providing a teacher supervised lunch hour tutorial that students will attend so
that they can complete or improve their work. Students who choose not to attend
tutorial sessions and choose not to attend the tutorial will be dealt with at a
disciplinary level.
Learning tasks are designed to help students master a particular concept. Tasks
that are poorly done, show that mastery has not been achieved. Students are
expected to improve their work until that mastery is reached (a mark of 65% or
greater). All students can rework any task with the goal of improvement.
