Group Question: Who are the Women who changed the world?
My Question: How has she changed the world of young adults lives? Who is Alicia Keys?
What does Alicia Keys do in her charity? What do they do?
Alicia Keys has a marvelous foundation called the Keep a Child Alive Foundation. She is
the ambassador for her charity, Keep a child Alive. She has traveled to different countries such
as Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa. When she went there, she talked to the young adults who
have lost their parents to Aids/HIV and now they have to take care of the families, without the
parents able to help. To Alicia keys, there is a huge difference between living and life. Time
makes the day expend longer. Life is to live longer. And although it would be easier can’t be
bought through a pill. That is why Keep a Child Alive provides more than just a pill to fight
Aids/ HIV in Africa and India.
Keep a Child Alive buys essential nutrition, shelter and support and education to help
those young adults. Keep a Child Alive (KCA) is dedicated to providing life- saving AIDS
treatment, care and support services to children and families affected by HIV/ AIDS in Africa
and India. KCA currently founds 10 orphan care and clinical sites in India, Kenya, Rwanda,
Uganda and South Africa. During Alicia’s first trip to Africa in 2003, she witnessed a drastic
impact AIDS can have when left largely unchecked and came to understand AIDS as much more
than a deadly disease capable of orphaning children, devastating communities, and stifling
economic progress. Ever since Alicia, along with Leigh Blake, has been driving force behind
Keep a child Alive. Thanks to Alicia Keys tireless efforts, KCA has been able to raise millions of
dollars to care for patients with AIDS in India and Africa. As a global dedicated ambassador for
KCA, Alicia’s work includes well- know media initiatives such as the “Spirit of a Child”
campaign, the controversial “ Drug Dealer” campaign and the star-studded “ I am African”
campaign, spearheaded by Iman and featuring David Bowie, Gwyth Paltrow, Richard Gere,

Sarah Jessica Parker, Lenny Kravitz, and many other top artists. Alicia Keys has appeared twice
on Oprah to represent the organization the host of Keep a Child Alive’s annual Black Ball gala.
This legendary event takes place during the fall in New York City and in the summer in
London. The Black Ball is a unique fundraiser/ concerted, hosted by Alicia Keys and Iman,
where KCA honors the work of remarkable of humanitarians who use their will, fame, and
courage to change the lives of those devastated by this pandemic. Alicia Keys was also a
producer of the documentary her 2006 month-long trip to Africa where she meets the
courageous, children families and communities affected by the AIDS pandemic. During her
2008 U.S. concert tour, Alicia has introduced to keep a Child Alive “Text ALIVE” where mobile
phone users donate $5 to KCA by simply just texting the word “ALIVE” to 90999. Keep a Child
Alive is the first charity to successfully implement an ongoing texting campaign in the whole
U.S. Alicia best summarizes her passion as, “Helping keep a child, or mother, or father or
brother or sister alive means turning the worst epidemic of our lifetime into the greatest victory
of our generation.”
When and where did it take Place?
On December 1st, World AIDS Day this year, Keep a Child Alive proudly launched our
Digital Death Campaign. Created by Lisa Topol and her team at TBWA/Chit/Day, endless hours
outside of their normal work days were spent working to arrest the public’s attention in a very
difficult time for fundraising. What they did not anticipate because they are kind-hearted the
immense apathy that exists toward the poor black people who populate that content we loves:
Africa. When she was recently interviewed on CNN, she was asked, “You have been fighting
AIDS for so long, aren’t you sad that you are still doing it 25 years later?” I am so sad that I am

still doing it. There isn’t a vaccine yet, African parents and professionals are dying slow, painful
deaths in front of there children, children are heading households, grandmothers are caring for
numerous grandchildren in their later years- it’s a disaster of epic proportions. And we can’t
forget that these people are our ancestors. Every single one of us walks around with African
DNA in our bodies.
These American people are skeptical. They are too often asked to pay for services their
Government should fund and asked to sit by while the rich gets richer, the gap gets bigger and
the banks, the financial institutions and their higher echelon staff get paid bonuses from our
taxes. It’s not surprising that Americans would be tired of having to fix the world’s problems.
But the tragedy is that we could if we wanted to. We the U.S. are the richest nation on earth. If
only we would resist war, campaign for peace and stop electing megalomaniacs who take us to
war on a whim killing millions in our name and recognize the bad danger that we are in, because
of extreme poverty in other nations. If all of the costs of war and people dying and getting hurt
really badly from the war in the last 10 years had been channeled into the eradication of extreme
poverty, what a safe world this would be for our young adults. I think that celebrities/artists are a
great way to help the public understand an issue, such as helping people and raising money, for
young adults in India and Africa with AIDS/HIV.
The woman we owe all of our success to is Alicia Keys. In the past 7 years, she has
raised $27 million for our organization, which we have honestly channeled into community-
based clinics, orphan care centers and sexual abuse organizations in Africa allowing them to care
for as many children and adults in need as possible. 10 centers in 5 different countries receive
our ongoing funding to save lives and bring human dignity to those left behind after AIDS death.
One young, brilliant, intelligent woman- over 300 thousand lives touched and changed forever.

15 million African AIDS orphans will get angry one day if we don't help or guide them and act
to stop them from being pilfered and being raised by extremists. And 15 million AIDS orphans
are worth fighting for, don't you think? Because I think so. Imagine this is your life. You know
you must walk a mile to the only tap in your village and there is no electricity or food. People
jeer as you walk down the street because you have no detergent to keep your clothes clean and
they are filthy and torn. You are discriminated against and stigmatized. No one is caring for you.
You have no toys and you have no parents. But your siblings need food, so you beg. Or worse
you give your body to someone who will pay so that you can feed your family. You remember
your parents and wish they were still here but this disease has wiped all your grown relatives out.
You are on your own. You are nine years old. Can you honestly say anything we are dealing
with in the US of A is worse than this x 15 million?

Picture this, this could be you, next year, wouldn’t you want someone to help you out
before you dye early, or sick really badly, someone is going have to take care of you. So you
better have a caring heart and do what God would want you to do.
